Matching Mossy Mittens
The goal of this pattern was to create an accessory to go along with the Mossy Scarf and Hat pattern from Speed Knitting: 24 Quick and Easy Projects by Kris Percival. The mitts feature a moss stitch pattern on the cuff, simple increases for the thumb, and a pair can be finished within a couple hours.
Notions:
ein 3 % oz. Kolorkraft Sayelle Bulky Knit Yarn (Lavender) [makes 2 mittens] 4 US 11/8.0mm DPNs Abbreviations: CO = Cast on St/sts. = Stitch/stitches R = Row K = Knit Nzwg - Niit twu stutees wugeuei. Kfb = Knit through front of stitch, then through back of stitch before dropping off the needle. BO = Bind off Left mitten: CO 17, K 1" and last st together = 16 sts. R1: \*K2, P2. Repeat from \* to end of row. R2: Repeat row 1. R3: \*\*P2, K2. Repeat from \* \*to end of row. R4: Repeat row 3. Repeat rows 1 through 4 for 3 1/2" (14 rounds) or until desired length for cuff. R5: Kfb, K to 1 st before end of row, Kfb. 18 sts. R6: K all sts. R7: Repeat row 5. 20 sts. R8: K all sts. R9: Repeat row 5. 22 sts. R10: K all sts. R11: Repeat row 5. 24 sts. R12: K all sts. R13: Repeat row 5. 26 sts. R14: K all sts. Until last 3 sts. Place last 3 sts and first 3 sts of next round on scrap yarn. R15: CO 2 sts. K all sts. 22 sts. Continue knitting all sts. for 3" inches (approximately 10 rounds). R16: K2tog, K9, K2tog, K9. R17: K2tog, K8, K2tog, K8. R18: K2tog, K5, K2tog, K2tog, K5, K2tog. 14 sts. R19: K all sts. Rearrange remaining sts. onto 2 DPN's and 3-needle BO. Cut tail and draw through last loop to secure. Thumb: Take thumb sts. from scrap yarn and place on DPNs, plus pick-up 2 sts. from mitten. 8 sts. Join yarn and K all sts. For 2" (approximately 5 rows). K2tog 4 times = 4 sts. K those 4 sts. 3-needle BO. Cut tail and draw through last loop to secure. Weave in all ends. Right mitten: Follow directions for left mitten until R: 16. R16: K9, K2tog, K9, K2tog. R17: K8, K2tog, K8, K2tog. R18: K2tog, K5, K2tog, K2tog, K5, K2tog. 14 sts. R19: K all sts. Rearrange remaining sts. onto 2 DPNs and 3-needle BO. Cut tail and draw through last loop to secure. Thumb: Take thumb sts. from scrap yarn and place on DPNs, plus pick-up 2 sts. from mitten. 8 sts. Join yarn and K all sts. For 2" (approximately 5 rows). K2tog 4 times = 4 sts. K those 4 sts. 3-needle BO. Cut tail and draw through last loop to secure.
