Alberni Cowl Knitting Pattern by Sashka Macievich: Rustic Tweed Design Inspired by Vancouver Island's Old Growth Forest

alberni cowl

Pattern illustration

This cowl is rustic and tweedy with bumpy ribs and garter and a hint of lace. It reminds me of the mossy carpet of the old growth forest near Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. Walking through the stand of trees hundreds of years old leaves me humbled and aware of the importance of these great giants. Alberni Cowl knits up quickly with only two balls of Aran weight yarn. The pattern is easy to remember and satisfying to work.

A bit about Sashka

Sashka lives with her husband in a small community in Northern British Columbia. Creating all her life and knitting since a child she covets all things fibery. When not knitting, spinning, dyeing, or designing she dabbles in sleeping, eating, and working to pay the bils. She loves good friends, coffee, chocolate, cheese, wine, and obscure mystery novels (not always in that order). You can find her designs on Ravelry - SashkaRC.
