Knitted socks with a decorative cuff
Directions provided for working top-down on DPNs, but use the method you prefer. Suggested yarn: Drops Merino Extra Fine or Drops Lima, or any other yarn which gives 21 sts x 28 row (10x10 cm/4"x4") gauge. I recommend a soft yarn, since these socks are designed to be worn directly on the skin. 100 g (about 210 meters) of main color (MC), 50 g of contrast color (CC). Size: EU 38-39 (my foot measures 24,5 cm from heel to toe), (40-41) Needle size: 3 mm, 3,75 mm or needle required to achieve gauge. Leg Cast on 56 (64) stitches in MC and divide over four 3 mm DPNS. Join in the round (be careful not to twist stitches) and knit one round. Row 2-5: \*K1, P1\* until end of round. Row 6: Knit. Row 7-11: Switch to 3,75 mm DPNS. Knit. Row 12: Switch to CC. Knit. Row 13: Purl. Row 14: Knit. Row 15: Purl. Row 16-17: Knit. Row 18: \*YO, k2tog\* Repeat until end of round. Row 19: Knit. Row 20: \*Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over, YO\* Repeat until end of round. Row 21-22: Knit. Row 23: Purl. Row 24: Knit Row 25: Purl. Row 26: Knit.

Knit 2 rounds, decreasing 4 sts on each round (48 sts (56 sts) Knit 18 rounds. Change to CC. Knit 1 round. \*K2, P2\* repeat until end of round, for 14 rounds. Change to MC. Knit 2 rounds. Make sure that you have 10 (12) sts on your first and third needle and 14 (16) sts on your second and fourth needle. Needle 1 and 4 will be used for knitting heel flap. Needle 2 and 3 will be top of the foot.
Heel and heel turn
Arrange the 20 (24) sts of needle 1 and 4 onto one needle and knit until heel flap measures 6 (7) cm. Next row: knit until 6 (7) sts remain. Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Turn work.1 url until 6 (7) sts remain. Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Turn work nit until 5 (6) sts remain. Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Turn work url until 5 (6) sts remain. Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stistch over. Turn wor Repeat decreases until 10 sts remain on needle. Pick up 10 (15) sts on each side of heel flap (58 (68) sts). Make sure that you have 15 (17) sts on needle 1 and 4.2
Gusset
Row 1: Knit until 2 sts remain on needle 1, k2tog. Knit needle 2 and 3. On needle 4, K2tog through back loop, knit remaining sts. Row 2: Knit Repeat decrease a total of 6 (7) times (46 (52) sts). Knit 38 rows (50 rows from heel turn to color change). Change to CC. Knit 6 rows. Make sure to have 11 sts on needle 1 and 3, and 12 (13) sts on needle 2 and 4.
Toe decreases
Needle 1: Knit until 2 sts remain, k2tog. Needle 2: Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Knit. Needle 3: as needle 1. Needle 4: as needle 2. Decrease on every row for 3 (7) rows (34 (24) sts). Decrease on every other row until 14 (16) sts remain. Next row: k2tog (7 (8) sts). Break thread and pull through remaining stitches. Weave in all ends and block if necessary.
