LIFEONMARS?
This project will help you busting your stash of leftovers. You are not supposed to make it green (although everybody knows that Martians are green). This toy is dedicated to a blogger friend, The Big Martian (www.ilgrandemarziano.blogspot.com) a man of culture and a great mind... a real Martian!
Materials:
A few yards of DK or sport yarn of your choice. Fiberfill or scrap yarn to fill your alien. 2 beads or tiny buttons (your alien's eyes), a little amount of black yarn, to embroider his mouth. N. 2,5 dpns (or a circular needle if you are a magic loop fan) Tapestry needle Hook
Abbreviations:
k = knit s= stitch - sts= stitches k1fb= knit 1 s in front and back loop ssk= slip, slip, knit m1= make one (use your favorite technique) cO= cast on k2t= knit 2 together
Head and body:

N. 2,5 needles. It's worked in the round. CO 6 stitches and join for working in the round on 3 dpns (ignore it if you choose the magic loop). Round 1: k. Round 2 : kfb (all the stitches - you have now 12 sts) Rounds 3: k. Round 4: kfb (all the stitches - you have now 24 sts) Rounds 5 - 10: k. Round 11: k1., ssk, k2, k2t, k1 (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop) Rounds 12 : k1, ssk, k2t, k1 (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Stuff you alien's body. Round 13: k1, ssk, k1 (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop) Round 14: k. Round 15: k1, m1, k1, m1, k1 (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Round 16: k. Round 17: k1 , m1, k1, m1, k1 , m1, k1, m1, k1 (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Rounds 18 - 20: k. Round 21: ssk, k5, k2t (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Round 22: ssk, k3, k2t (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Round 23: ssk, k1, k2t (on each needle - or 3 times, if you are using magic loop). Stuff your alien's head and close it. Cut thread 30 cm long and pass it through all remaining stitches with a tapestry needle. Pull thread and weave in loose end.
Legs:
Make two small icords: CO 5 sts and work the icird for 4 rows. Stuff them with scrap yarn and sew them to the body.
Arms:
Make 2 icords more, casting on 3 sts and working for 8 rows. It's not necessary to stuff them, just sew them to the body.
Antennae:
With a hook, pick up a stitch and chain 8, then close your chain. Make a little knot at the and of your antenna and cut yarn. Make another one, symmetrically.
Face:
Stitch two beads or small buttons at your Martian face and embroider a mouth, smiling or sad, according to your mood. Your Martian is ready... to invade our blue planet! This pattern is for personal use only. Please, don't make copies and don't sellitems made following these directions.
