If you prefer to work from a template, see further down the instructions. Cast on 3 st. Rows 1 and 2: knit Row 3: k1, yo, k1, yo, k1 Row 4 and every even row: knit, no increases, decreases or yarn overs Row 5: k1, yo, k3, yo, k1 Row 7: kl, yo, k2tog, yo, kl, yo, [sll, kl, psso], yo, k1 Row 9: k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, [sl1, kl, psso], yo, k1 Row 11: kl, yo, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, [sll, kl, psso], yo, kl Row 13: k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k7, yo, [sl1, k1, psso], yo, k1 Row 15: kl, yo, k2tog, yo, k9, yo, [sl1, kl, psso], yo, k1 Continue in the same manner, increasing the number of knitted sts in the middle of the rov on each odd row until you have altogether 33 sts on row 31. (The reason to have decreases twice in the beginning and end of a row is to shape the piece. On these rows the total number of sts doesn't increase:) Rows 33 and 35: k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k23, [sl1, kl, psso], yo, [sl1, kl, psso], yo, k1 Row 37: k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k27, yo, [sl1, kl, psso], yo, k1 (35 sts on the row) Row 38 (wrong side row). This is the row when you join this piece to a previous one after you have more than one piece done. On the first piece you knit this row normally and continue until the end of the piece.

Subsequent pieces:

Take the finished piece where the last row of sts is on a needle. Put the piece you are working on on top of the finished one. Join the pieces by knitting together the first st on the top needle and the 1st st on the bottom needle, then the yo and the second st on the bottom needle, then the 3rd etc. until the end of the row. See photo next page.

After the join, continue knitting the top piece.

Make 5 pieces in each of the 2 colours, alternating the colours. Join pieces as you work. When the last piece is finished, cast off stitches and sew the piece under the first piece so it looks like all the other joins. The work forms a circle. Sew tassels on each point. Attach the tassel through both layers (see photos next page).

Cut-out template

If you like to have a paper template to compare the size of your pieces as you work, you can print and cut this template out. It is on two pages, cut out both and join them by taping them together where marked. This is actual size when printed on A4 or letter paper size.
