These elegant looking socks are asymmetrical in that the cables are not balanced around the leg. Thick cables mix with thin to keep the knitting interesting and fun. (For a challenge, reverse the cables on your second sock!) )IZC. Women's US 6 (easily adjustable) Foot circumference: 8" Cuff to heel: 6" Materials: Louet Gems Sport Weight (225 yds), 2 skeins in Pewter US 2.5 (3.0mm) $16^{\circ}$ circular needle (2) Cable needle, Tapestry needle, Stitchmarker Gauge: Cables: $\mathrm{C2F}=\mathrm{Slip}\ 1$ sts to cn and hold in front, k1, k1 from cn $\mathrm{C}3\mathrm{F}=\mathrm{Slip}\;2$ sts to cn and hold in front, p1, k2 from cn $\mathrm{C}3\mathrm{B}=\mathrm{Slip~}1$ sts to cn and hold in back, k2, p1 from cn ${\mathrm{C4F}}={\mathrm{Slip~}}2$ sts to cn and hold in front, k2, k2 from cn Notes: W&T (RS) Bring yarn between needles to front, slip next st onto RH needle, bring yarn between needles to back, and return slipped st to LH needle; turn. W&T (WS) Bring yarn between needles to back, slip next st onto RH needle, bring yarn between needles to front, and return slipped st to LH needle; turn.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cuff: Cast on 68 sts. Divide evenly between needles and place marker at start of round. Rounds 1-4: K2, P2. Round 5: C2F, P2. Repeat rounds 1-5 once more. Leg: Round 1 and 2: K2, P2. Round 3: K2, P2, K2, P2, CF3, CB3, P2, K2, P2, CF3, CB3, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, CF3, CB3, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, CF3, CB3, P2, K2, P2. Round 4: Knit or purl sts as sts appear. Round 5: CF2, P2, CF2, P3, CF4, P3, K2, P3, CF4, P3, CF2, P2, CF2, P2, CF2, P3, CF4, P3, CF2, P2, CF2, P3, CF4, P3, CF2, P2. Heel: Rounds 6, 7, 8, 9: Knit/Purl as sts appear. Round 10: Repeat round 5. Repeat Leg Rounds 1-10 for a total of 40 rounds (or length desired) ending with round 5 or 10. Short-row heel is worked on 34 sts of needle 1. First half of heel: Row 1: K to last st, W&T. Row 2: P to last st, W&T. Row 3: K to 1 st before wrapped st, W&T. Row 4: P to 1 st before wrapped st, W&T. Rep rows 3 and 4 until there are 11 wrapped sts on each side of center 12 “live' sts. The heel should look like a trapezoid. Second half of heel: Row 1: K to first wrapped st, pick up wrap and k tog with st tbl, W&T (st will have 2 wraps). Row 2: P to first wrapped st, pick up wrap and p tog with st, W&T (st will have 2 wraps). Rep rows 1 and 2, except pick up 2 wraps and working tog with st, until there are 34 “live”’ sts again. Foot: Continue pattern (rounds 1-10) of leg on top foot. Work bottom of foot in plain st st. Work until foot measures approximately 2" less than desired finished length. Toe: Working with the top of the foot needle, repeat the instructions for a short-row heel. Finishing: Using kitchener st, graft the sts of needle 1 together with sts of needle 2. Weave in ends.
