Fairy Shoes - for little ones

With a little lacy motif , these baby fairy shoes are knitted flat on two needles using DK/8 ply yarn.
Wings are made separately and added to the back seam. There are 3 sizes of shoe.

Materials
DK/8 ply yarn, 30 (35, 40) gms; 60 (70, 80) m / 66 (77, 88) yds approx 2 small buttons , approx 1 cm diameter.
Requirements
. 1 pair 4 mm (US 6) needles · tapestry needle for sewing seams · needle and strong thread for buttons
Tension/gauge
20 sts, 27 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles, using DK/8 ply yarn Note: as this is such a small item you can test your tension as you knit: when you have worked the first 12 rows, stop and measure the middle 10 cm along the width. If you have fewer sts than the required tension, use smaller needles or your shoe will be too big. If you have too many sts, use bigger needles .
Abbreviations - read before starting work
cast on, cable method = place right needle between last 2 sts to make next st (instead of into the stitch as if to knit) k = knit p=purl st = stitch stocking stitch = knit right side rows, purl wrong side rows sl1 = slip1 st to right needle, as if to knit or purl depending on the row you are working k2tog = knit 2 sts together: decreases a st with a right slant p2tog = purl 2 sts together ssk = slip 1 st knitwise,slip 1 st knitwise, place left needle purlwise into slipped sts in front of right needle, knit both sts together: decreasesast with left slant M1 = pick up the strand from the row below between the next st and the st just knitted, and work into the back of it: increases a stitch kfb = knit into the front and the back of the stitch before taking it off the left needle: increases 1 stitch yo = yarn over —— bring yarn forward as if to purl -- this makes an extra stitch with a hole beneath it yrn = yarn over and around needle, to make an extra stitch when followed by a purl st [k2tog, k1] x3 (eg) = instructions inside [ ] brackets to be repeated the number of times afterx, therefore this example = k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1 rpt = repeat

Fairy Shoes

Now work the remaining 6 sts Row 1 (right side). purl Row 2. knit Row 3. purl Row 4. knit Row 5. purl Cast off all sts, losely. Fold cast on edge in half with wrong side out, and sew seam along sole of shoe. Sew back seam from sole to cast off edge. Sew button in place to ft.
Left shoe - size 3 - 6 months
Work as for right shoe until \*\*\*\*\*\*\* Row 32 (wrong side). knit Row 33. purl Row 34. knit Row 35. purl Cast off all 6 sts, lo0sely, leaving 30 cms yarn for sewing at the end. Work as for right shoe until \*\*\*\*\*\*\* Row 32 (wrong side). knit Row 33. purl Row 34. knit Row 35. purl Cast off all 7 sts, loosely, leaving 30 cms yarn for sewing at the end. Work the remaining 7 sts as follows: Row 1(right side). cast on 18 sts using the cable method, and purl all 25 sts to end. Row 2. knit Row 3.p1, p2tog, yrn, p22 Row 4. knit Row 5. purl Cast off all sts, loosely. Sew as for other shoe.
Wings - make 4 the same, all sizes
With DK/8 ply yarn, on 4 mm (US 6) needles, cast on 4 sts , using the cable method . Row 1. knit Row 2 and all wrong side rows. knit Row 3. cast on 2 sts, knit to end Row 5. kfb, k5 Row 7. k7 Row 9. kfb, k6 Row 11. k8 Row 13. kfb, k5, k2tog (place a safety pin as a marker at end of the row below this one) Row 15. kfb, k7 Row 17. kfb, k6, k2tog Row 19. kfb, k6, k2tog (stop here- do not knit wrong side row) Cast off all 9 sts on wrong side. Make second wing and then sew them together on the straight edge between marker pin and cast on edges (ie left side of rows 1 - 12). Sew wings to back of shoe along seam, with the bottom of the wings'seam placed just above the ridge at the shoes sole- see pics.
