Hurdle stitch diagonal dishcloth or baby blanket

Hurdle stitch is a repetition of 4 simple rows. Easy to memorize, it makes a nice and soft fabric that lies perfectly flat. Fully reversible, hurdle stitch is ideal for dishcloths, blankets, scarfs and more!

Pattern
Cast on 4 stitches. 1st row: Knit. 2"d row: K2, YO, knit to end of row (5sts). Repeat 2"d row 4 more times (9sts). 7t\* row: K2, YO, \*K1, P1\*, repeat from \* to \* to last 3 sts, K3. 8t\* row: K2, YO, P1, \*K1, P1\*, repeat from \* to \* to last 3 sts, K3. 9th row: K2, YO, knit to end of row. 10"h row: K2, YO, knit to end of row. Repeat these 4 rows until you reach 49 sts (or 209 sts for a baby blanket of approx. 33 x 33 in or 84 x 84 cm). Then repeat rows 7 et 8 once (51sts for a dishcloth, 211 sts for a baby blanket). In both cases, continue with the following instructions (begin decreasing) 49th row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, knit to end of row. 50" row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, knit to end of row. 51" row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, P1, \*K1, P1\*, repeat from \* to \* to last 3 sts, K3. 52"d row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, \*K1, P1\*, repeat from \* to \* to last 3 sts, K3. Repeat 49 to 52 until there is 9 sts left, then repeat 49" row until there is only 5 sts left. Next row: K1, K2tog, K2 (4 sts). Next row: Knit. Bind off last 4 sts, weave in ends.
