This pillow co-ordinates with the free Paton's Divine Throw found on the Paton's site at (http://www.patonsyarns.com/pattern.php?PID $\mathbf{\omega}=$ 2857). The throw and pillow look great together and are perfect for curling up with some knitting and a good movie. The pillow utilizes the same stitch pattern as the throw and features a fold-under envelope back secured by three buttons. There is no need to make buttonholes because of the elongated drop-stitch. It is a great way to use up any extra yarn after knitting the throw. The lacy effect of the elongated stitch allows the pillow form to show through from underneath, so you may choose to add a contrasting pillow cover underneath. A plain white pillow form was used in the sample.

The pillow is knit with a separate front, back, and flap and sewn together to give a firm edge all the way around the pillow. However, you may choose to knit it as one long strip and fold it, sewing only the side seams. Instructions:

Note:

The pattern stitch is fully reversible so there is technically no right or wrong side. For the purposes of construction, the “right’ sides are the pieces that begin with the 6 rows of stocking stitch.

Pillow Front:

Using $8\;\mathrm{mm}$ needles, loosely cast on 35 stitches. Do not join in a round. Rows 1 to 6: Work in stocking stitch starting with a knit row. Row 7: Knit Row 8: Knit Row 9: Knit each stitch by wrapping the yarn around the needle twice. Row 10: Knit each stitch, dropping the extra wrap. This creates the elongated stitch. Row 11: Knit Row 12: same as row 9 Row 13: same as row 10 Repeat these pattern rows 3 more times. Next 2 rows: Knit Cast off loosely.

Pillow Back:

Same as Pillow Front for the first 13 rows. Repeat the pattern rows 2 more times Next 2 rows: Knit Cast off loosely.

Pillow Flap:

Same as pillow front for the first 13 rows. Repeat pattern rows once more. Next 2 rows: Knit Cast off loosely.

To Make Up:

Work in ends. You may block lightly if you wish, but it is not necessary because the project is self-blocking over the pillow form. The pillow is sewn with “right' sides facing out, as it will appear on the pillow form. Lay the pillow front down with the "wrong” side up. Next align the top of the pillow flap with top of the pillow front, \*right' side up. Pin the two pieces together along the top and sides. Next lay the pillow back over both pieces, aligning the bottom edges of the pillow back and front, “right'” side up. Pin allthree pieces together along the bottom and sides. Sew around the outer edges of the pillow. Insert pillow form. Position 3 (or more) buttons evenly-spaced across the part of the flap that is tucked under the back. To help the sewing thread blend with the variegated yarn, blend two strands each of three different shades of embroidery floss. The six strands of embroidery floss will fill the button holes quickly and are stronger than sewing thread or yarn. Sew the buttons in place. Close the back over the flap, buttoning through the elongated stitches.

Optional Tassels:

You may want to add optional tassels to the corners of the pillow. Instructions on how to make tassels are found at: (http://www.patonsyarns.com/pattern.php?PID=2857).
