
Parking Levels YaYaLovesToKnit, May 10, 2016 An easy to knit semi-slouch hat. This roomy hat is knit in the round with simple knit and purl stitches. Adjustable for a slouchier look by knitting an additional pattern repeat or reducing the number of rounds for a beanie style. Size: Teen Size The sample hat measures 9.5" from top to bottom, and 16" around the ribbed band (unstretched). For a larger hat, increase the number of cast-on stitches in multiples of nine (9). Yarn: approximately 120 yds of worsted weight yarn The sample hat was knit using 57 grams of Loops & Threads Impeccable (100% acrylic, 128g/268 yds/skein) in Rich Orchid Needles: US 07 and US 08 circular needles, plus US 08 double pointed needles Other tools: stitch marker, tapestry/darning needle Gauge: 16 sts x 23 rounds = 4"
Abbreviations used:
k= knit k2tog = knit two stitches together p = purl ssk (slip, slip, knit) = from the left needle, slip 2 stitches one at a time as if to knit to the right needle. Purl them together through the back loops st(s) = stitch(es)
Begin pattern:
Using the US 07 circular needle, cast on 81 sts. Taking care to not twist the stitches, join to begin knitting in the round. Place marker to indicate the beginning of round.
Bottom Band
[K3, pl, k2, pl, kl, pl] around. Repeat until band measures 1.5" from cast-on edge.
Body of Hat
Change to US 08 and knit 5 rounds. 1. [P3, k6] around 2. Knit around 3. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 twice more. 4. Knit 4 rounds. Repeat instructions 1 thru 4 twice more. At this point, the hat measures approximately 7.5" from the cast-on edge.
Crown of Hat (decreases)
Change to double pointed needles when the number of stitches are too few to work comfortably on the circular needle. 1. [K7, k2tog] around - 72 sts remain 2. [K6, ssk] around - 63 sts remain 3. [K5, k2tog] around - 54 sts remain 4. [K4, ssk] around - 45 sts remain 5. [K3, k2tog] around - 36 sts remain 6. [K2, ssk] around - 27 sts remain 7. [K1, k2tog] around - 18 sts remain 8. [SSK] around - 9 sts remain Finishing: Cut the yarn leaving at least a 12" yarn end. Using the darning needle, thread the yarn through the remaining 9 stitches at least twice. Cinch snugly and anchor the yarn. Weave in the yarn ends. Steam or block the hat if desired.
