Handle

The handle is made from an I-cord. This simple knitting technique creates a narrow tube of knitting that looks a bit like French knitting. Step 1 Using green yarn, cast on 7 sts with double pointed needles Step2 Knit one row. Do not turn the work These illustrations demonstrate 4 stitches, but the technique is the same for 7 stitches. Step3 Slide the stitches to the other end of the needle

Step 4

Knit a second row by bringing the yarn behind the work and starting with the first stitch. Tug the work from the bottom after each first stitch to help it to take shape and to even out the tension. It'll start to take shape after 3 - 4 rows. To knit an I-cord repeat steps 3 and 4.

Pattern illustration

The handle is an I-cord approximately 50 rows long.

To Make Up

Sew seams and join pieces using mattress stitch. Work a gathering thread through every stitch on the cast on edge and draw up. Join the side edges of the bag, working up from the gathered base. Position and sew on the handle.
