Kate's Baby Blanket

The scoop: This is a blanket to treasure! Lace and cables combine in an 8 row repeat that is easy to learn and delivers lovely results. This project is smaller than many lace patterns, making it a good choice if you're new to lace knitting. Choose one of our edging options and your favorite sport-weight yarn, and you're on your way! Materials needed: Sport weight yarn of your choosing (for our prototype, we used Frog Tree Alpaca, 650-780 yards (5 $\frac{1}{2}$ -6 skeins), but we would also recommend a cotton, cotton/wool blend, or washable merino of similar yardage), needles as stated on yarn label- a circular needle is best, at least 24 in., small size cable needle, stitch markers (if desired) and a blunt tapestry needle (for finishing). Gauge: Not important with this project. We still strongly recommend knitting a swatch of the lace stitch/box stitch to familiarize yourself with the pattern. Needle size US 5 or 6 or what is recommended on the fiber you are using. Swatch: Box Stitch separates the Lace Cable Twist Stitch. Cast on a multiple of 10 sts. for your swatch, and knit using Box Stitch and Lace Cable Stitch as instructed below. Box Stitch (alternating knits and purls, multiple of $4+2$ : Row 1: K2, $\looparrow p_{2}$ , K2: rep from \* to end of row. Row 2: P2, $\star\mathsf{K}z$ , P2: rep. from \* to end of row. Row 3: Rep. row 2. Row 4: Rep. row 1. Lace Cable Twist (multiple of 11 sts. $+7$ ) Row 1 (and all WS rows): Purl all sts. Row 2: K1, \*yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k6: rep from \*, end last rep with k1. Finished dimensions: Our prototype in Frog Tree Alpaca measured approx. 22 in. $\times\,38$ in. This may vary with individual gauge and type of yarn selected.
