Knitting Pattern for Vert Green Shawl with Stairway Stitch and Garter Stitch Details January 2015

Yarn : Patons Classic wool bulky (100% wool), 5 x100g, 71 m (78 yds). Color vert/ green. Size : See schematic on page 2. Gauge : 10 sts x 15 rows = 10 cm (4") with stairway stitch (see chart). Needle : 8mm (US 11) circular 100 cm (40") minimum. Other material : 6 stitch marker,1 tapestry needle.

Pattern

First part : Garter stitch Cast on 7sts. Row 1 (Set up row): K1, pm, yo, (k1, yo, pm, k1, pm, yo) x2, k1, yo, pm, k1. (13 sts) Row 2 : K all sts. Row 3 (RS) : K1, (yo, k until next marker, yo, 1end) X3 (19 sts) Row 4 (WS) : K all sts. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach 25 sts on each of the 3 section of shawl (between 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, finally between 5th and 6th markers) You now have 79 sts total. You will add 6 sts each time you will work row2.

Second part : Stairway stitch

For stairway part, follow every rows of chart (see on page 3) and do not forget to work yo after 1st, 3rd and 5th marker and yo before 2nd, 4th and 6th marker on every RS rows (odd rows).

Kfb : Knit into front and back of stitch (2 sts made into 1). Pm: Placer marker. RS : Right side of work. St(s) : Stitch(es). WS : Wrong side of work. Yo : Yarn over. (Add 1 stitch)

Third part : Garter stitch

Remove 1st and last marker. Row 1 : K until 1st marker (previously your 2nd marker), kfb, k1, kfb, k until 3rd marker (previously your 4th marker), kfb, k1, kfb, K all remaining sts. Row 2 : K all sts. Repeat rows 1 and 2, 6 times more.

Fourth part : Garter stitch K all row until you have just enough yarn left to bind off (about 7 times your row length of approximately 240cm (96") FYI : In this original sample, there's 10 garterstitchrowsbeforebindoff. To bind off : K2, slip back these 2 sts on left-hand needle and knit them together through back of loop (k1, slip back 2 sts on left-hand needle and knit them together through back of loop) repeat until last stitch, cut and pass yarn into remaining stitch. Weave ends. Block to measurements. Et voila!
