Knitting Pattern: Neckfish Scarf Inspired by Tenby Harbour's Fishing Heritage with Reversible Fish-Scaled Stitch Design

about

notes

The medieval walled town of Tenby has, for eight centuries, been known for its fishy business. Its Welsh name, Dinbych-y-Pysgod, literally translates to “little fortress of the fish." Neckfish, a "twice around" scarf with two interlocking fishy tails, was inspired by the ever-present fishing boats in Tenby Harbour, and is designed to be worn multiple ways. Similar to the Danish “Halsfisk", a small scarf, usually knit in garter stitch, for babies or small children, this grown-up version of the twintailed scarf features a reversibile, vaguely fish-scaled looking stitch pattern, created by Lynne Barr. For a perfect fit try on as you knit. Hold Tab A near the hollow of your throat and wrap the scarf around your neck as many times as you like. When the end of the scarf reaches Tab A, work to the next stopping point in the pattern, and begin Tab B.
