Worked in the round. With double pointed or 2 circular needles, cast on 30 (32, 34) stitches. Join, being careful not to twist and mark "seam", if necessary. Working in garter stitch knit 7 rounds, about 1 inch. RS: Change to stockinette stitch, increasing 1 st each side of "seam" every 12 (10, 12) rounds, 3 (4, 4) times. 36 (40, 42) sts. Work even until sleeve measures $7"(7.5,\,9.5)$ excluding hem. Place sts on any size circular needle, or on WY to act as stitch holder. Work other sleeve. Lay both aside. NoTE: 3 sts from each side of the seam will be placed on yarn to act as stitch holders when joining to the body. Body: Always slip first st as if to purl, unless directions indicate otherwise. Cast on 114 (122, 134) sts. Knit 4 rows in garter stitch. Row 5 (First buttonhole row): K3, yo, k2tog for button hole, knit across to last five sts, k2tog, yo, k3. This puts a buttonhole on each front band. Buttons wili be sewn over the unnecessary buttonhole, but it makes placement really easy. If you don't wish to make buttonholes on both bands, place them on the appropriate band. Continue in garter stitch until 7 rows, total, are complete. Row 8 (Rs): Keeping first and last 5 stitches in garter stitch, and continuing row count, begin knitting the body of the sweater in stockinette stitch. Continue as established, adding buttonholes approximately every $z^{\prime\prime}$ $(2.25^{\prime\prime},\,2.5^{\prime\prime})$ until Row 41 is finished. Pockets: Right Pocket: Using two double pointed needles Pick up and knit 20 sts from top row of bottom band, beginning with the stitch after the button band. Row i: Purl Row 2: K first st tog with st closest to the button band on the third row, k across to last st, k this st tog with corresponding body stitch on left side. Repeat Rows 1 & 2, 4x. (10 rows total) knitting into every other row of body sts. Row 11: Sl 1, K 2, Purl across Row 12: K first st tog with st closest to the button band, kto three sts from left edge, k2tog, k1. Repeat Rows 11 and 12 until there are 10 sts left on the pocket. Row 31: Repeat Row 11. Row 32: K first st tog with st closest to the button band, k to end. Row 33: Repeat Row 11, leave on needle or remove to a double pointed needle.

Left Pocket:

Repeat rt pocket instructions, reversing shaping on the decrease rows as follows: Row 11: Sl 1, purl across to last 3 sts, K 3. Row 12: Sl 1, SsK, knit across, k last st tog with st closest to button band. Pockets are complete, resume knitting on body of sweater. Row 42 of main sweater body: K5, k sts from pocket needle tog with sts from body, using a third needle, until the 10 pocket stitches are joined, K across to 15 sts from end and join second pocket the same way as the first pocket. Continue knitting sweater body as before, adding buttonholes, until it measures 6.5." (6.75, 8)"-. 49(53, 61) rows total from bottom, not including band, ending with WS row. Note: Last buttonhole should begin on Row 80 (84, 96). Joining sleeves to form yoke. Note: The first few rows may be difficult to work over the sleeves, because of the number of stitches spanning the armhole. Slip the center six sts of each sleeve onto a length of wY, and tie to hold. Row 50 (54, 62): With right side facing, sl 1, K 24(26, 29). Put next 6 sts on WY, PM, knit 30 (34 , 36) sts from sleeve (making sure that stitches on WY on sleeve and body match), PM, K 52 (56, 62) for back, PM, put next 6 body sts on WY, K 30(34, 36) from sleeve, PM, k 25 (27, 30) sts for left front---162 (178 ,194) sts. Do not work the underarm sts at this time. Row 51 (55 6?) and all odd rows: Sl1 k 4 Dto lact 5 ctc k 5 Row 52 (56, 64) & 54(58, 66): Knit in established pattern, dec (SSK before marker, K2 tog after marker) before and after all markers. Row 56 (60, 68): Knit in established pattern, dec only on sleeves. Repeat these 6 rows 3(3,4) times more. Repeat Row 51(55, 63) once more. Work even in established pattern, with no decreases, until Row 85 (89, 99) is complete. The six underarm stitches may be Kitchener stitched together now. If there are "pulls" at the edge of those six stitches, carefully eliminate them by stitching adjacent stitches together. Hood: Note: Ws rows have been odd numbered up to this point. For the hood, odd numbered rows will be theRSrows. Row 1: Continuing from sweater neck, cast on 5 sts, at beg of row, K 10, increase 20 sts evenly across to last 8 sts. K the last 5 sts and cast on 5 sts. Row 2: Sl 1, K 4, P 1 (turning st), K 4, P to last 10 sts, K 4, P 1, K 5. Row 3: (Eyelet row) Sl1, K7, yo, K2tog, K to last 10 sts, K2tog, yo, K 8. Row 4: Sl 1, K 4, P 1, K 4, P to last 10 sts, K 4, P 1, K 5. Row 5: Sl 1, K to end. Repeat Rows 4 & 5, until hood measures $8.5"(9,\,9.5)$ from beginning of hood edging, ending with a WS row. Put half of sts on a separate needle and Kitchener st or do a 3 needle bind off to join the two sides of the hood. Turn hood edging under on the turning st and whip stitch to inside, including the ends. Tie: Make I-cord the length over the hood edging, plus $24^{\prime\prime}$ or length desired. Put a long crochet hook through one eyelet and pull the I-cord in through the other eyelet. Finish off ends; tie a knot in the I-cord on each end. Finish off all ends, sew on buttons. Qianer: A picture is attached of how the stitches should be knit on the pockets, if you want to use that. It really helped my testers.
