Mrs Morning's wings
Using the 3.75 needles, pick up 4 stitches horizontally across the side of Mrs Morning, about 14 rows up from the bottom where you started to decrease the body. (l picked up one side of the V shape stitch in the stocking stitch pattern to create new horizontal stitches to make the wings). Attach yarn and knit across the 4 sts P 1 row SS for 4 rows (K 1 row, P 1 row twice) K2tog, K2tog, P1row K2tog Thread yarn through the last stitch and sew the wing tip to the body. Knit 1 row down (12sts). Knit 1 row up (12sts). BO all stitches and fasten off.
Beaks
For Mrs Morning's beak, cut out a small diamond shape piece of felt, sew to the body across the middle and fold in half. For Mr Morning's beak, cut out a triangle of felt. Fold in half to make a right angled triangle. Sew the base edges together onto the side of the body.
Mr & Mrs Morning's Combs
Take 3 x 2"/5mm lengths of aran or heavier weight 1oo% wool or fluffy yarn. Thread one through the top of the body leaving equal yarn tails at either side. Repeat the process threading the yarn through at different angles, say 12 o'clock thro to 6, 2 to 8 and 4 t0 10, leaving yarn tails at either side. This should give you 6 tufts on top of the head. Handwash the knitting with a drop of soap and gently agitate to fluff the tufts and Mr Morning's tail. Leave to air dry. Pop them both on your eggs at breakfast!
SIZING TIP
Mr & Mrs Morning are made to fit a medium/ large UK hen's egg. If you have very large eggs, you can add some more depth and increase the body circumference by multiples of 2 stitches and work the decreases evenly around the body. For example: 2 stitches adds approx 12" (15mm) to the circumference Add 2 stitches (22sts) After garter stitch edge, Knit 12 rows First decrease would be K5, K2tog, K5, K2tog, K6, K2tog. K4, K2tog, K4, K2tog, K5, K2tog. and so on (with a Knit 1 row inbetween if you're doing Mr Morning). OR bigger still Add 4 stitches (24sts) After garter stitch edge, Knit 14 rows First decrease would be K6, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K6, K2tog. K5, K2tog, K5, K2tog, K5, K2tog. and so on (with a Knit 1 row inbetween if you're doing Mr Morning).
