Just Perfectly
Design: Bitta Mikkelborg

Simple and charming socks, knitted in the Norwegian Yarn Perfect. I have used selfdyed Perfect, and the stripes came out just perfectly. I have used exactly 100 grams Perfect, and I have knitted them in shoe size EU 37/38 (ladies medium). Needles 3 and 3.5 mm. The pattern is easy to "translate" to other yarn and other stitch numbers.
Abbreviations used in this pattern: k: knit p: purl sl: slip k2tog: knit 2 stitches together tbl: through back loop WS: wrong side RS: right side ssk: slip, slip, knit; slip stitch 1 knitwise, then slip stitch 2 knitwise, then knit the two stitches together through back loop. M1L: (make one left) with left needle, lift strand between stitches from the front, knit through the back loop. M1R: (make one right) with left needle, lift strand between stitches from the back, knit through the front loop.
NB! Follow the same instruction for both right and left sock until you have finished the heel, then follow different instruction for right and left sock.
Cuff:
With smaller needles; cast on 48 stitches. Join for knitting in the round, be careful not to twist. \*k 2, p 2\* repeat \* - \* throughout the round. Knit the cuff as long as you like. I worked for 10 rounds.
Leg:
Change to larger needles and knit stockinet stitch until the leg measures 13 cm. (This is important if you want to only use 100 grams of Perfect.)
Heel flap:
Working on 24 first stitches only, leaving remaining instep stitches on hold. Row 1: \*Sl 1 knitwise, k1\* repeat from \* across row. Row 2: Sl 1 purlwise, purl across row. Repeat these two rows until you have worked 31 rows, ending with row 1. (Or you can knit until desired length of the heel.)
Heel turn:
Row 1 (WS): sl 1 purlwise, p 12, p2tog, p1,turn. Row 2 (RS): sl 1 knitwise, k 3, k2tog tbl, k1, turn. Row 3 (Ws): sl 1 purlwise, p to 1 stitch before gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4 (RS): sl 1 knitwise, k to 1 stitch before gap, k2tog tbl, k1, turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all heel stitches are worked. You now have 14 stitches left on your needle. Divide these stitches on 2 needles (needle 1 and 4). The round now begins under the foot with needle 1. The thread is now at the end of needle 1. With your free needle, pick up 16 stitches along the heel flap on the right side. Knit these 16 picked up stitches tbl with needle 1. Knit the insteps needles (needle 2 and 3). With the free end of needle 4, pick up 16 stitches along the left heel flap. Knit these 16 stitches tbl and the last 8 stitches normally. Continue like this:
Right sock:
Round 1: Knit through needle 1. On needle 2: ssk, knit through needle 2 and 3. On needle 4: k1, ssk, knit through needle. Round 2: Knit Repeat these 2 rounds. After some rounds there will be few stitches left on needle 2. You may then slip stitches from needle 1, but remember that the decreases always should be worked at the same place. This will make a line across the upper side of the foot. Continue knitting like this until you have 48 stitches totally in round. Then the ssk's are in the middle on the upper side, and you have 12 stitches on each of all needles. Then knit like this: Round 1: k through needle 1. On needle 2: M1R, k11, slip stitch 12 to needle 3. Needle 3: ssk, knit through needle 3 and 4. Round 2: knit Round 3: Needle 1: knit. Needle 2: k1 (this number will increase for every other round), M1R, k11. Needle 3: ssk, knit through needle 3 and 4. Continue knitting alternating round 2 and 3. The slanting line will continue towards needle 4, and you will get fewer and fewer stitches on needle 3. At the same time you will get more stitches on needle 2 because of the M1R's. Slip stitches from needle 2 to needle 3 when it suits. When the sock has reached the desired length, it's time to knit the toe. The toe is the same for both socks. NB! If you are knitting a long sock, the line will move to needle 4. Do not continue the ssk's when all stitches on needle 3 are worked. Replace the ssk with a k2tog at the end of needle 3 instead. If the sock is extra long, the slanting part then ends by itself at needle 4.

Left sock:
Round 1: Needle 1: knit until 3 stitches remains, k2tog, k1. On needle 2: knit. Needle 3: knit until 3 stitches remains, k2tog. Needle 4: knit. Round 2: knit Repeat these 2 rounds. After some rounds there will be few stitches left on needle 3. You may then slip stitches from needle 4, but remember that the decreases always should be worked at the same place. This will make a line across the upper side of the foot. Continue knitting like this until you have 48 stitches totally in round. Then the k2tog's are in the middle on the upper side, and you have 12 stitches on each of all needles. Then knit like this: Round 1: Needle 1: knit. Needle 2: k11, k2tog (the last stitch on needle 2 and the first stitch on needle 3). Needle 3: k11, M1L. Needle 4: knit. Round 2: knit Round 3: Needle 1: knit. On needle 2: knit 10 (this number will decrease with 1 stitch for every other round), k2tog. Needle 3: k11, M1L, knit through needle 3 and 4. Continue knitting alternating round 2 and 3. The slanting line will continue towards needle 1, and you will get fewer and fewer stitches on needle 2. At the same time you will get more stitches on needle 3 because of the M1L's. Slip stitches from needle 3 to needle 2 when it suits. NB! If you are knitting a long sock, the line will move to needle 1. Do not continue the k2tog's when all stitches on needle 2 are worked. Replace the k2tog with a ssk at the end of needle 2 instead. If the sock is extra long, the slanting part then ends by itself at needle 1.
Toe:
Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to last 3 stitches on needle 1, k2tog, k1. On needle 2, k1, ssk, knit through needle. On needle 3, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. On needle 4, k1, ssk, knit through needle. Knit 3 rounds without decreases. Knit round 1. Knit 2 rounds without decreases. Knit round 1. Knit 1 round without decreases. Knit every following round as round 1, until you have 4 stitches left on each needle. K2tog through round, and cut the yarn leaving a tail long enough to pull through the last 8 stitches and to weave in the end. Voila; you have a new sock Knit another sock, and you have a new pair of socks?
