Sand and Surf Afghan
By dmwoodman, created for Lion Brand Yarn Speed Stix Afghan Contest Needles: US size 50 Yarn: 8 skeins Homespun $\mathbf{M}\mathbf{C}=1$ skein 355 Delft, 1 skein 368 Montana Sky, 2 skeins 341 Windsor - hold all 4 strands at once $\mathrm{CC}=1$ skein 380 Fawn, 1 skein 311 Rococo, 2 skeins 318 Sierra - hold all 4 strands at once Approx. size (when flat) $=48"\mathrm{~x~}30"$ Pattern: Cast on 48 stitches of MC. Row 1: k2tog $\ast\mathrm{k}4$ k2tog $\mathrm{k}2\mathrm{tog^{*}}$ repeat from \* until 6 stitches remain, k4, k2tog. (you should now have 36 stitches.) Row2: $k2\sp{\ast}\mathrm{k}$ into front and back of next 2 stitches, ${\bf k}4^{*}$ repeat from \* until 4 stitches remain, k into front and back of next 2 stitches, k2. (you should now be back up to 48 stitches.) Repeat rows 1&2 twice more (6 rows total). Switch to CC and repeat pattern 3 times (6 rows total). Carry colors not in use. Repeat pattern until you have 6 stripes of each color, ending on a brown stripes, row 2.
Bind off.
Inspiration for pattern: I created this afghan for my parents. My father fishes and my mother collects lighthouses. In addition, my mother's favorite color is blue and my father's is brown. This afghan will match the living room (brown colors), the den (blue colors) or the guest bedroom (which is where the lighthouse collection is displayed).
