(you may need 3 skeins if your foot is longer than 9 ${\mathit{1}}/{2}^{\prime\prime}$ or if you want the large size with a 6" leg) US 1.5 $(2.5\mathsf{m m})$ (2 sets)/US 2 ( $\left(2.75\;\mathsf{m m}\right)$ (2 sets) needles or to knit to gauge waste yarn for provisional cast-on cable needle tapestry needle Gauge: 8.5 sts/inch in stockinette

Notes:
For a smaller or larger sock, it is recommended that you go down or up one needle size. (You can also decrease or add a purl stitch to the pattern) If you are knitting the medium but have a foot length longer than $9~1/2".$ ,follow the instructions for the large leg so that you will have enough yarn to finish your foot or buy an extra skein of yarn. If you are knitting the large and want a $6^{\prime\prime}$ leg, follow the instructions for the medium. You will need an extra skein of yarn. For mirrored socks: begin second sock on round 13 of Cable Pattern Stitch and substitute 2/2R for 2/2L.

Remove waste yarn and place stitches onto a spare set of needles. Fold at round 7 so purl sides are facing each other (cast-on row is in the back). Hemmed Picot Cuff: Using $2.5\mathsf{m m}$ $(2.75\mathsf{m m})$ needles and a provisional cast on with waste yarn, cast on 68 sts. Join into a round, being careful not to twist the CO edge around the needles. PM to indicate beginning of rounds. Change to project yarn and work hem as follows: Slipped Stitch with Cabled Border: row 1 (wrong side): slip 1, k1, p4, k2, p17, k2, p4, k1, p1 row 2: slip 1, p1, 2/2L, $\ast\mathsf{k1}$ , slip 1; repeat from \* to last 9 sts. End with k1, p2, 2/2l, p1, k1. row 3: slip 1, k1, p4, k2, p17, k2, p4, k1, p1 row 4: slip 1, p1, k4, $\ast\mathsf{k1}$ , slip 1; repeat from \* to last 9 sts. End with k1, p2, k4, p1, k1. row 5: slip 1, k1, p4, k2, p17, k2, p4, k1, p1 row 6: slip 1, p1, k4, $\ast\mathsf{k1}$ , slip 1; repeat from \* to last 9 sts. PM to indicate end of instep Pick up the back loop and knit through the back the same number of stitches along second edge of heel. Knit 10 stitches and place marker. The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel flap. Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, k1. Knit 37 instep sts in cable pattern as established. Slip second marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of round. Round 2: Knit around as established. Repeat these two rounds until 31 stitches remain on thesole. Foot: Knit as established (cable pattern stitches on instep and stockinette on the sole) until foot measures about $z^{\prime\prime}$ less than desired foot length, ending on even round. Decrease round: Knit to first instep marker. Work cable pattern across instep stitches EXCEPT OMIT ALL YO's. Slip second marker, knit to end of round. (31 instep sts/ 31 sole sts) Knit 3 rounds even. Begin toe.
Toe:
Decrease Round: knit to last 3 stitches before first marker, k2tog, k1. Slip marker, k1, ssk, knit across to last 3 stitches before second marker, k2tog, k1. Slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end. Work decrease round once, knit 3 rounds even. [Work decrease round once, knit 2 rounds even] twice. [work decrease round once, knit 1 round even] 3 times. Work decrease round only until 18 sts remain. Use Kitchener stitch to close toe.
