Plexus Socks
The Plexus Socks are named for the stitch pattern's resemblance to the structure of a nerve plexus in the human body. Plexus is Latin for braid, and the stitch pattern is reminiscent of a Saxon braid, with elements of Bavarian twisted stitch socks. Maximum efficiency in yarn use can be accomplished if the yarn is divided into half and each sock is knit until you run out of yarn. (Make sure you have enough to bind off!) Finished Size (foot circumference) : Women's Small: 6-7" Women's Medium: 7-8" Women's Large: 8-9" Yardage: 100g fingering weight (4-ply) sock wool, solid or semisolid Gauge: 1" = 8 stitches Needles: US size 2 (or whatever gives gauge)

Cat Bordhi developed her Sweet Tomato Heel over many months, working closely with over a hundred test knitters of all skill levels. During this time she distilled her illustrations and explanations again and again, until her test knitters and tech editor agreed the instructions were as clear and perfect as possible. In order to be sure that her work is not misrepresented, Cat asks that designers who wish to use her heel in their patterns send their readers directly to her free videos as well as to purchasing links for her eBook, Cat's Sweet Tomato Heel Socks (\$2o), and to the eBook's individual patterns (\$6 each). She is encouraged that many knitters have been able to work from the free videos alone; if not, the eBook or individual patterns will give you the detailed instructions, illustrations, and explanations you need. The Pattern:
Note: size-specific instructions are given as follows: (Small, Medium, Large). Toe: Cast on using your favorite toe method. I like the Figure-Eight Toe, as explained in Knitty (http://knitty.com/ISSUEwintero2/FEATtiptoptoes.html) Increase until you have (6o, 64, 68) stitches on the needles. Foot: Divide the stitches so that the front has (20, 22, 24) stitches and the back has (40, 42, 44) stitches. Note the orientation of the toe so that the front stitches are centered with respect to the toe edge. If necessary, place markers before and after front stitches. Knit front stitches according to the chart. Small: knit between inner set of arrows (center 20 stitches) Medium: knit between outer set of arrows (center 22 stitches) Large: knit entire chart (all 24 stitches) Knit back stitches in plain stockinette. Continue in pattern until sock reaches junction of instep and ankle. Make a note of the number of the next line in the pattern. Using back stitches, knit Cat Bordhi's Sweet Tomato Heel. Other techniques can be used here; make sure to allow for gussets earlier on if using a gusset+heel technique. Leg: Starting where you left off in the chart, knit across the front stitches. Continue knitting across the back stitches, beginning the chart at the same line used in the front stitches. Continue knitting in pattern until 1.5" from where you want the sock to end. Cuff: Knit for 1.5" using (k tbl 2, p 2) ribbing. Bind off using a stretchy cast off of your choice. Chart:
