1. Introduction
Hello, this is IM4MAN with my second pattern. I came up with the idea for these after watching the trailer for Captain America:The First Avenger. I decided that when I'm going to see this film, I'm going to do it in style - 100% American style. So, whether you're proud of being American, are a fan of Captain America, are a Hetalia fan or just like the old red, white and blue: this is the perfect hat for you.

: wool: type ,,Sport" according to http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/weight.ht one skein of blue one skein of red one skein of white (you won't really use up a skein of each color) You need: needles one circular needle size 3,5 mm Iam 4MAN Designs: Hat of America 一one set of dpns size 3,5 mm- one sewing needle to weave in ends (or whatever you like to use for weaving in) > the circular needle is optional, you can use only the dpns if you want
You need: techniques
knitting in the round ribbing 2x2 stockinette stitch in the round working colors in the round decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together And now, let's get started! 3. Instructions: Cast on 96 stitches in blue. Join in the round. Work 2x2 ribbing for 15 rounds Change color to red. Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch Row 7: /knit 11 k2tog/ - repeat this pattern 7 times, there should now be 5 stitches left. Knit those. Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch Change color to white Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch Row 7: /knit 10 k2tog/ - repeat this pattern 7 times, k5 Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch Change color to red Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch Row7: /knit 9 k2tog/ - repeat this pattern 7 times, k5 Knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch
Change color to blue
Start on this chart: Repeat it five times. (You can place markers after each chart to help you keep track) Explanation: The brighter squares stand for white color; the blue squares for blue color; the little stars stand for k2tog

0 row 1 would be just 15 stitches in blue; row 2 would be k13 then k2tog; etc While working this chart you'll notice that working with the circular needles gets more and more difficult; switch to the dpns in time. Once you've worked the charts, there will be 5 stitches left. Cut your yarn (but leave a medium to long tail), go through the stitches with a sewing needle, pull tight, weave in. Now all that's left is to weave in all ends!
4. Modifications:
Modifications for the Retro Hat of America:
Just change the shade of your colors for darker ones; I used beige, wine red and this jeans color. (But the only yarn I could find in this color was too thin so I used two strands of it at once, my retro hat may look a bit different from yours, but not by much)

Modifications for the Star:
You can increase or decrease the size of the star at the top very easily: look at the chart. When you want a bigger star, just start with the white part earlier, but continue in the same fashion as in the chart. When you want a smaller star, just start with the white part later, but continue in the same fashion as already established. 5. Trivia, tips and more
Trivia:
As I mentioned, I'm a huge fan of Captain America from Marvel comics, and his legendary shield was my inspiration for the hat: red circle, white circle, red circle and then blue center with a star. Also, the red-white parts each contain 13 rows; the American flag has 13 stripes.
Tips:
When you switch to dpns during working the chart, distribute your stitches so that you will have one chart per needle, except for the last one which will have to carry two charts. r stitches too tightly when you work on the chart and start to change to white. Iam 4MAN Designs: Hat of America
More:
I'm still a beginner at knitting (I've been knitting for half a year now) and this is only my second pattern. I would love to get some feedback: was the pattern clearly understandable? Do the instructions work? Did I phrase something wrong or awkwardly, did I make typos...anything, basically. Have fun with your Hat of America!
