Materials Needed
Aran square $\pmb{6\times}$ 6inches ( $.15\times15\mathrm{cms})$ $20\mathfrak{g}$ of Aran (worsted) weight cotton or similar yarn for main square colour 3g (approx) red oddment for apple & 2g (approx) green oddment for leaf of Aran (worsted) weight cotton or similar yarn. 1 Pair of 4mm knitting needles
Double knitting square $5\,\times$ 5inches ( $12.5\times12.5\mathrm{cms})$
12g of DK (sport) weight cotton or similar yarn for main square colour 3g (approx) red oddment for apple & 2g (approx) green oddment for leaf of DK (sport) weight cotton or similar yarn. 1 Pair of 3.5mm knitting needles
4Ply square $_{4\,\times}$ 4inches ( $70\times10\mathrm{cms})$
8g of 4Ply (fingering) weight cotton or similar yarn for main square colour 3g (approx) red oddment for apple & 2g (approx) green oddment for leaf of 4Py (fingering) weight cotton or similar yarn. 1 Pair of 3mm knitting needles

Instructions for knitted square
With your chosen ply ot yarn α matching knitting needles as per previous page cast on 31 sts using the long tail method in main colour. Row 1 Purl. Row 2 K1, $\mathbf{\hat{\Delta}P}_{1}$ , K1\*\* repeat from \* to \*\* to end of row. Row 3P1, \*P1, K1\*\* repeat from \* to \*\* to last 2 sts, P2. Row 4As row 2 Row 5As row 3 Row 6As row 2 Row 7P2, K1, P1, K1, P21, K1, P1, K1, P2. Row 8 K1, P1, K1, P1, K23, P1, K1, P1, K1. Continue repeating rows 7 & 8 until you are about to start row 35. Row 35 P1, $\mathbf{\hat{\Delta}P}_{1}$ ,$\mathsf{K}\mathsf{1}^{\ast\ast}$ repeat from \* to \*\* to last 2 sts, P2. Row 36 K1, $\mathbf{\hat{\Delta}P}_{1}$ , K1\*\* repeat from \* to \*\* to end of row. Row 37 As row 35 Row 38 As row 36 Row 39 As row 35 Row 40 Knit. Cast off. Secure & neaten ends. Inctriictionc for Fmhroider/ Thread a bodkin or similar blunt needle with your chosen contrasting colour of yarn. Follow the chart opposite to duplicate stitch (UK Swiss Darn) embroider all required stitches in the stocking stitch area on the right side of your blank knitted square. Secure all ends on the wrong side of your square & trim any long tails to about an inch (2.5cms) long.
