Space Invader inspired Wrist Warmers
Now this is the sort of game where you can really indulge your inner geek. My brother had one of the original Atari consoles and we used to plug this game into the TV and play for hours. Now every time I wear these wrist warmers, I can almost see them dancing along in their lines. And every good gamer knows the importance of wrist warmth when you're clutching that controller on a winter's morning. Cast on, cast off, knit, purl, stranded, knitting in the round. You will need: 3.25mm double pointed or circular needles (UK 10, US 3), DK yarn in chosen colours: midnight blue (colour 1) white (colour 2), tapestry needle.
Chart 1

Chart 2

To knit: Using colour 1, cast on 50 stitches and join in the round. (Rows 1-8: Seed stitch) Row 1: (K1,p1) repeat to end. Row 2: (P1, k1) repeat to end. Repeat rows 1 and 2 three more times. It is now time to begin creating the pattern. This will be done in st-st but because you are knitting in the round, the rs of your work is always facing. This means that you only have to use knit stitch. Rows 9-10: Knit. Rows 19-20: Knit in colour 1. Rows 21-28: Follow chart 2. Rows 29-30: Knit in colour 1. Rows 31-50: Repeat as above for rows 11-30. Now it is time to create the thumb hole. This is achieved by turning your knitting, so instead of knitting in the round, you are knitting into the front and back of each stitch as if working on straight needles. By not joining as before, a hole is created. It is important to remember the conventions of straight knitting apply again to create st-st: knit when rs facing, purl when ws facing. Row 51: With rs facing, follow line 1 of chart 1 to end. Turn. Row 52: With ws facing, follow line 2 of chart in reverse to end. Turn. Continue to follow chart 1, making sure to turn at the end of each row. Row 59: Knit in colour 1. At the end of the row, join as before to continue knitting in the round. Row 60: Knit in colour 1. Rows 61-68: Seed stitch in colour 1 as before (rows 1-8)- Cast off loosely. To make up: The beauty of knitting in the round is that you effectively have a finished project as soon as you cast off! Sew in loose ends and you're done. Now get gaming! Abbreviations Rs: right side Ws: wrong side St-st: stocking stitch
