
Description Baby Socks (Newborn, 6-12 months) knit in the round with a ribbing or plain knit variation. Optional ribbing directions beyond the cuff are included starting with the Gusset instructions, detailed in the Plain Round rows by choosing the $^{*}{\mathsf p}2,\mathsf{k}2^{*}$ option instead of knitting all stitches.
Needles
US 1 $./2.25\;\mathrm{mm}$ DPN or Circular Knitting Needles, or size to get gauge.
Yarn
This is a perfect project for leftover fingering weight yarn. Newborn size requires 11 grams/ 41 yards/ 39 meters, and 6-12 mos size requires 21/ grams / 79 yards /72 meters per pair.

Pattern
Cast on (28, 44) stitches, join in the round. $^{*}{\mathsf{k}}2,\mathsf{p}2^{*}{\mathsf{a c r o s s}}$ all stitches until cuff measures (1, 2) inches from cast on edge.
Heel Flap
$^{*}{\sf k}2,{\sf p}2^{*}$ across (14, 22) sts. TURN needle around and work Row 1. Note slip 1 is slipped purlwise. Row 1 slip first stitch, purl to end (on inside of sock). Repeat rows (5,8) times more (1, 1.25) inches.

A word about stitch markers. The first marker marks the beginning of the round. The second and third markers indicate toe decrease placement. The gusset decrease instructions begin at the beginning of round marker. Place Beginning of round marker here. Pick up (8, 10) stitches along right gusset, Place $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ marker, $\mathsf{k}$ or $*_{p2,k2^{*}}$ (14, 22) across top of sock (Newborn size: stitches will be distributed evenly on the needles after Gusset Decreases) Place $3^{\mathsf{r d}}$ marker, pick up (8, 10) stitches along left gusset, and k (8, 12) across heel. Rearrange stitches evenly between stitch markers for Newborn size
k4, place stitch marker, k2, remove stitch marker, k or $\ast_{\mathsf{p}2}$ $k2^{*}$ for 14 sts, remove marker, $\mathsf{k1}$ , place marker, k13, remove beginning of round marker. There are two markers left with 17 stitches between them (34) sts.
Sock Foot
Continue in pattern as established until sock measures (2.5, 3.5) inches from back of heel.
Toe Decreases
6-12 Mos Remove Beginning of Round marker. Now only Marker 1 and Marker 2 remain. Each marker indicates where to work the toe decreases and all stitches should be divided evenly between markers Continue decreasing as described below until (14, 16) sts remain: Knit to 3 sts before Marker 1, k2tog, k1, mm, k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before Marker 2, k2tog, k1, mm, k1 ssk. Graft toe, and repeat pattern for second sock.
