Size Chart: Size 1: 6-12 months Size 2: 1-2 years Size 3: 3 years-small adult Size 4: large adult Supplies: Size G (4.25MM) crochet hook 100 grams worsted weight yarn (I use $100\%$ cotton yarn) Tapestry needle Gauge: 8 stitches and $7\,\mathrm{rows}=2$ inches in half double crochet (hdc)
Notes:
· In this pattern, the ch2 at the beginning of the round DOES NOT count as the first stitch. You may find crochet instructions on the internet. I only provide the stitch abbreviations for you, plus a special stitch instruction for the bpsc.
Abbreviations:
Chain (ch), Slip Stitch (sl st), Single Crochet (sc), Half Double Crochet (hdc), stitch (st), stitches (sts), and Back Post Single Crochet (bpsc).
Special Stitch Instructions: Back Post Single Crochet (bpsc)
A bpsc is basically the same thing as a bpdc, you just do a single instead of a double. Insert hook from back to front to back around post of corresponding stitch below, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through two loops on hook.

Size 1 Pattern:
Foundation: ch4, join with sl st in first st to make a ring. Round 1: 8 hdc in ring, join to $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ stitch with a sl st. (8 sts) Round 2: Ch2, 2 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to ch2 space. (16 sts) Round 3: Ch2, $^{*}1$ hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st. Repeat from \* around, join with sl st to ch2 space. (24 sts) Round 4: Ch2. $^{*2}$ hdc in next st. 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from \* around, join with sl st to ch2 space. (32 sts) Round 5: Ch2, $^{*}1$ hdc in each of next 3 sts. 2 hdc in next st. Repeat from \* around, join with sl st to ch2 space. BRIM INSTRUCTIONS:
Row 1: Ch1, sc 23 sts, turn Row 2: sl st across 23 sts, turn Row 3: sc through rows 1 and 2 (through the sc and sl st) turn Row 4: sl st across, turn Row 5: sc through the previous 2 rows (through the sc and sl st) do not turn
FINAL EDGING ROUND:
Row 6: sc down the left edge of the brim, continue to sc evenly around the entire back edge of the hat, continue to sc up the right side and across the front of the brim end with a slip stitch into the first sc of this round. Fasten off . Try not to crochet the last round too tightly as it will not have enough give around the head. To finish: Cut yarn and fasten off.
