Stripy Knit Hoodie Dress
This dress is perfect for any season. The main part of the dress is knit using circular needies, and there is very little sewing involved. You can follow the striped pattern, or make it a little easier by using a solid color. Size: 12-18 months (2 years, 4 years, 6 years, 8 years, 10 years)
Supplies Needed:
Size 7 US $(4.5\;\mathrm{mm})$ , 16 inch circular knitting needles for the smaller sizes Size 7 US $(4.5\;\mathrm{mm})$ , 20 or 24 inch circular knitting needles for the larger sizes 5, Size 7 US ( $\left(4.5\;\mathrm{mm}\right)$ , double sided knitting needles About 2 balls of worsted weight yarn each in 5 colors Gauge: 18 stitches and $24\;\mathrm{rows}=4$ inches in stockinette stitch
PATTERN:
Body: With Color A, cast on 127 (135, 143, 151, 159, 167) sts. Place a marker, then join, being careful not to twist. Round 1: $\ast\mathrm{K}1$ , P1, repeat to end of round Round 2: $^{*}\!\mathrm{P}1$ , K1, repeat to end of round Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until it measures 2 $(2,2\,\nu_{2},2\,\nu_{2},3,3)$ inches. \*\*Switchto colorB and continue following the color sequence found at th end of the pattern): K1 around for 3, $(3\,\%,4,4\,\%,5,6)$ inches Decrease Round: ${}^{*}\mathbf{K}$ 14 (15, 16, 17, 18, 19), K2 tog, repeat from $^*7$ times, K 14 (15, 16, 17, 18,19). 120 (128, 136, 144, 152, 160) sts. K1 around for 3, $(3\,\%,4,4\,\%,5,6)$ inches Decrease Round: ${}^{*}\mathbf{K}$ 13 (14, 15, 16, 17, 18), K2 tog, repeat from $^*8$ times. 112 (120, 128, 136, 144, 152) sts. K1 around for 1 $(1,1\,\nu_{2},2\,\nu_{2},3,4)$ inches Decrease Round: $^{*}\mathrm{K}12$ , (13, 14, 15, 16, 17), K2 tog , repeat from $^*8$ times. 104 (112, 120, 128, 136, 144) sts. K1 around for $1\;(1,1\;\%,2,3,4)$ inches Decrease Round: $\ast\mathrm{K}11$ , (12, 13, 14, 15, 16), K2 tog, repeat from $^*8$ times. 96 (104, 112, 120, 128, 136) sts. K1 around for $4\,(5,\,5\,^{1}\!/2,\,6,\,6\,^{1}\!/2,\,7)$ inches. \~Garment should measure 14 (16, 19, 22, $25\,\%$ , 30) inches at this point.\~
Belt Round:
$\ast\mathrm{K}2$ tog, YO, repeat from \* for 1 round. K1 around for 1 $(1\;\%,\,2,\,2\;\%,\,3,\,3\;\%)$ inches
Divide For Fronts and Back:
K 46, (50, 54, 58, 62, 66) sts and sl to holder for Back, K 25, (27, 29, 31, 33, 35) sts and sl to a holder for Right Front, K remaining 25, (27, 29, 31, 33, 35) sts for Left Front.
Left Front:
Start with WS facing Row 1: P1 until 2 sts remain, P2 tog. Row $2!\;\mathbf{K}$ to end Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 13 (16, 17, 19, 21, 24) sts remain, bind off.
Right Front:
Start with WS facing, transfer sts for right front from holder back to needle. Row 1: P2 tog, P1 to end of row Row $2!\;\mathbf{K}$ to end Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 13 (16, 17, 19, 21, 24) sts remain, bind off.
Back:
Transfer sts for back from holder back to needle. Join yarn and work even in stockinette st and color sequence until back measures same as right and left front. Bind off.
\*\*Before moving on, it is a good idea to “tidy up” the bodice. Tie off and weave in all the loose ends. \*\*
Sew the front to the back being careful to line up the arm edges.
Arms:
Switch to double pointed needles and continue following color sequence starting with color A. Using 3 double sided needles, pick up 48 (54, 60, 66, 72, 78) sts evenly around armhole. K rounds following color pattern until arm measures 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2 %2 ) inches. Decrease Round: $\mathrm{*K4}$ , K2tog, repeat from \* around [42 (48, 54, 60, 66, 72) sts.] K1 around for $\%$ (%, 1, 1, 2, 2) inches Decrease Round: $^{*}\mathrm{K}3$ , K2 tog, repeat from \* around [36 (42, 48, 54, 60, 66) sts.] K1 around for $^{1\!}/2\;(^{1\!}/2,\,1,\,1,\,2,\,2)$ inches Decrease Round: $\ast\mathrm{K}2$ , K2 tog, repeat from \* around [30 (36, 42, 48, 54, 60) sts.] K1 around until arm measures 3 $(3\,\%,4,4\,\%,5,6)$ inches. Switch to color A Decrease Round: K2 tog, $\mathbf{K}$ to end. [29 (35, 41, 47, 53, 61) sts.] Continue with color A for the remainder of the sleeve. Round 1: $\ast\mathrm{K}1$ , P1, repeat from \* to end. Round 2: $^{*}\!\mathrm{P}1$ , K1, repeat from \* to end. Repeat round 1 and 2 until edge measures 1 inch, bind off.
Hood:
With Color E, cast on 54 (60, 64, 68, 72, 76) sts. Work in stockinet st until it measures $6\,\%$ (7, 8, 9, 10, 11) inches from beginning. Bind off. Fold Hood in half and sew bound off edge for back of hood. Sew Hood to neck edge. (It will go all along the back and partially onto the front on each side. Make sure it is even.)
Neck/Hood Edging:
Using 4 double sided needles, start at the neckline and work around. With color A, carefully pick up 131, (139, 147, 155, 163, 171) sts (or as many as will fit leaving an odd amount). Join to the beginning. $\ast\mathrm{K}1$ , P1, repeat from \* to end. Round 2: $^{*}\!\mathrm{P}1$ , K1, repeat from \* to end. Repeat round 1 and 2 until edge measures 1 inch, bind off.
To finish:
Tie each of the colors together in a square knot when they meet up and then weave in the ends.
To make belt:
Using a contrasting color than the belt round, make a braid; or use a crochet hook and make a chain until it measures 54 (58, 61, 66, 72, 78)inches. Weave the belt through the belt round.
