Size 1 Pattern:
Begin with the knit portion of the hat:
Cast on 78sts. Place a marker, then join, being careful not to twist. Cable Pattern: Round 1: \*(K10, P3), repeat from \* around. Round 2-5:Repeat round 1 Round 6: \*(slip 5 sts onto cable needle, hold to the front, K5, then K5 on the cable needle, P3), repeat from \* around. Round 7-18: Repeat round 1 Round 19: Repeat round 6. Round 20-21: Repeat round 1.
Decreasing Rounds:
(Please note that when the hat will no longer fit on the circular needles, you will need to switch to double sided needles by evenly dividing the remaining stitches onto 4 double sided needles.) Round 1: \*(K10, P1, P2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 2: \*(K10, P2), repeat from \* around. Round 3: \*(K10, P2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 4: Knit entire round. Round 5: \*(K9, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 6: Knit entire round. Round 7: \*(K8, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 8: Knit entire round. Round 9: \*(K7, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 10: \*(K6, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 11: \*(K5, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. Round 12: \*(K4, K2 tog.), repeat from \* around. (78 sts) Round 2: ch 1, \*(Work 1 sc in next 4 sts, sc 2 together), repeat from around, join with sl st at end. (65 sts) Round 3: ch 1, sc around, join with sl st at end. Round 4: ch 1, sc around, join with sl st at end.
Brim Instructions:
Row 1: Ch1, sc 25 sts, turn Row 2: sl st across 25 sts, turn Row 3: sc through rows 1 and 2 (through the sc and sl st) turn Row 4: sl st across, turn Row 5: sc through the previous 2 rows (through the sc and sl st) turn Row 6: sl st across, turn Row 7: sc through the previous 2 rows, turn Row 8: sl st across, turn Row 9: sc through the previous 2 rows, DO NOT TURN. FINAL EDGING ROUND:Row 10: sc down the left edge of the brim, continue to sc evenly around the entire back edge of the hat, continue to sc up the right side and acros the front of the brim end with a slip stitch into the first sc of this round. Fasten off . Try not to crochet the last round too tightly as it will not have enough give around the head.
