Green Grow the Ferns

A design by YaYa Lovestoknit With all the drizzly rain, everything was already green and growing. The weekend was warm and lovely, but a storm was moving in. A scramble to get the grass cut before the rain hit. Steady rain the last few days have washed away a lot of pollen and made everything even greener. Lots of new seedlings popping up. But it's damp and chilly. Pattern Notes:

The fern lace stitch pattern is produced using a 4-round repeat. The lace alternates with stockinette sections. There are 5 panels of fern lace and stockinette. 1.Knit each stitch 2. K3, \*yo, k2, sl 1, k1, psso, k2tog, k2, yo, k1\*; repeat from \* to \* once more; k1; pm; k9; pm. Repeat sequence 4 more times to complete round 2. 3.Knit each stitch 4. K2, \*yo, k2, sl 1, k1, psso, k2tog, k2, yo, k1\*; repeat from \* to \* once more; k2; sm; k9; Sm. Using the stitch markers is optional, but is helpful to identify each section and to keep track of the number of stitches in each section. If the number of stitches between the markers for the fern lace pattern does not equal 22, then you know something is wrong. Cast on 155 stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Taking care to not twist stitches, join to begin knitting in the round. Begin with 3 rounds of seed stitch. Knit one round. Begin the 4-round sequence for the fern lace/stockinette panels. Repeat the 4-round sequence until piece is 4 inches from beginning. Continue pattern but decrease the stockinette section of each panel by 1 stitch by using k2tog in center of the section. Do this on a round where all stitches are knit. Continue in this manner until each k9 stockinette section has been reduced to 5 stitches. Space out the decrease rows so the narrowing of the section is gradual. Repeat pattern until cowl is desired size. Knit 2 rounds. Knit seed stitch for 3 rounds. Bind off loosely. Weave in ends. Block if desired.
