Cabled Fingerless Mitts

Supplies
Yarn: 150 yds worsted weight wool Needles: 2 - US size $6\;24^{\circ}$ circulars or size needed to obtain gauge Notions: tapestry needle, cable needle, $12^{\circ}$ piece of smooth waste yarn, row counter (optional) Gauge: Approx. 8 sts/in in $4\mathrm{x}2$ ribbing, relaxed
Cuff
CO 48 sts and divide between 2 circular needles. Join to work in the round. Work in K4, P2 rib until the cuff measures $2^{\circ}$ Or desired length.
Hand
Ndl #1 holds the palm stitches Ndl #2 holds stitches for the back of the hand Work K4, P2 rib on the palm stitches (Ndl #1) while working the following cable pattern on Ndl #2. Pattern Stitch Row 1: C4F, P2 across Rows 2-5: K4, P2 across Continue working in this pattern until piece measures $6^{\circ}$ from start of cuff.

Free Pattern
For the right hand: On Ndl #1, K the first 7 stitches with a piece of waste yarn. Transfer theses stitches back to the left needle and knit them again with the working yarn this time. Continue working the rib in pattern. For the left hand: On Ndl #1, work rib pattern until you reach the last 7 stitches. Knit these 7 stitches with a piece of waste yarn and transfer them back to the left needle. Knit them again with the working yarn. Continue working the rib pattern on Ndl #1 and the cable pattern on Ndl #2 for another $2^{\circ}$ .BO loosely.
Thumb
Carefully remove waste yarn and place the stitches on 2 needles. You will have 6 stitches on top and 7 on the bottom. Join yarn and work 7 stitches across bottom. Pick up 3 more stitches to close the gap between the two needles. Knit the 6 stitches on the other needle and pick up 4 more stitches to close the gap on the other end. Knit 10 rounds and BO very loosely as to not cut off circulation in your thumb. Weave in ends. .You are welcome to share this pattern witb family and friends. Please do not use commercially.
