Sunset shawl
Ing-credible Threadz Designs

A light, lacy shawl, perfect for summer
Materials:
Needles: sizes 6 and 7, either straight or circular to work the beginning but due to increasing number of sts as you work, a circular is recommended. 437 to 450 yds of fingering wt. yarn. For the shawl pictured I used one skein of Rowan Fine Art which has 437 yds. I used all but about 2 yds! See notes. Stitch markers optional.
Notes:
This pattern was inspired by the Holden Shawl which was a free pattern on Ravelry up until about a year ago. I have used the lace section of that pattern for this shawl. If you have it in your library as I did, just follow instructions for working it when instructed. If you do not have the pattern it is available on Ravelry, just not free anymore. As noted, I used one skein of Rowan Fine Art, which has 437 yds. The pattern as written will use all but about 2 yds of this skein, so be frugal! If you have a little more yarn to work with, instructions are given for an alternate finishing.
Pattern:
Using size 6 needles, cast on 5 sts. Knit 1 row. Next row (RS) k1, k1 f&b, k1, k1 f&b, k1 (7sts). Next row (WS)- k1, p5, k1 Next row - k1, k1 f&b, k3, k1 f&b, k1 (9sts) Next row - k3, p3, k3 Begin pattern: Row 1 (RS) - k3, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k3 (13sts) Row 2 (Ws)- k3, p across to last 3 sts, k3 Row 3 - k3, yo, k across to center st (you may want to mark this st by adding stitch markers on either side of it), yo, k1 (center st), yo, k across to last 3, yo, k3. When repeating this row throughout pattern, you will k to marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo- if you have used markers. Row 4 - k3, p across to last 3, k 3 Repeat rows 3 and 4 (adding 4 sts on every RS row by working yo's) until there are 38/39 rows, ending by working a WS row. The row # is not critical, as long as you end by working a WS row. Next row (Rs) - k3, yo, (k2tog, yo), repeat () across to last st before center st or marker (if using), k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, (yo, ssk), repeat ( ) across to last 3 sts, yo, k3 Mark this row and continue working rows 3 and 4 as above for 19 more rows, ending with a WS row. Next row (Rs) - k3, yo, (k2tog, yo), repeat across to 3 sts before center st, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, (yo, ssk), repeat across to last 3 sts, yo, k3. Move marker to this row and continue working rows 3 and 4 for 19 more rows, ending with wS row. Next row (Rs) - k3, yo, (k2tog, yo), repeat across to last 5 sts, k5, yo, k1, yo, k5, (yo, ssk), repeat across to last 3 sts, yo, k3. Continue working rows 3 and 4 until there are 193 sts, end with a WS row. Change to size 7 needles and work rows 1 through 38 in lace pattern of Holden Shawl. Knit 1 row. \*if you are using a 437 yd skein, you will have enough yarn to knit this final row and work the lace bind off described below. If you have a 450 yd skein you can knit 2 rows before binding off. If you have more yardage available you may want to work the picot bind off described in Holden pattern.
