Danish Rose Gauntlets

This lovely stranded gauntlets go perfectly with the Danish Rose Beret. The gauntlets are worked back and forth with a button-placket, then continued in the round. Yarn Use Aran weight, in colours of your own choice. J.C. Rennie Chunky is recommended.

Pattern:
Right Hand Gauntlet
With 4mm straight needles & MC cast on 54 sts. Row 1(RS): K4, \*K2, P2, rep from \* to last 6 sts, K6 Row 2 (WS): K4, \*P2, K2, rep from \* to last 6 sts, P2, K4 Repeat rows 1 & 2 once more. Set-up Portion Change to 4.5mm needles and cont in st st, keeping 4 sts at beginning & end of row in garter st, as follows: Row 1: K Row 2: K4, P to last 4 sts, K4. \*\* Row 3: buttonhole row K2, YO, K2tog, K to end Row 4: Work as for Row 2 Danish Rose Portion Rows 1-18: keeping the Garter borders and st st body in patt as set, commence working Danish Rose fair isle motif from Rose Chart over centre 19 sts. On Row 13, Work another buttonhole (as in Row 3 of Set-up Portion). Row 19: Switch to DPNs. Work last row of patt to last 4 sts and slip these onto a cable or spare DPN. \*\*\* Row20: Joining row - hold the sts on the cable needle behind first 4 sts of next row and K together both sets of 4 sts to form a button flap (50 sts). PM between 2nd and 3rd sts. This denotes beg of round. Cont to work in the round, dec 1 st at marker on every 5th row 6 times (44 sts). Change to 4mm DPNs and work even for 12 rounds (work measures 26cm). Change to 4.5mm DPNs and arrange 11 sts on each of 4 needles. Work 4 rounds even. ++ Dividing for Thumb and Increase Row 1] 4 times; K5, M1, K2, thread next 12 sts onto a spare piece of yarn for the thumb, K2, M1 (40 s Work the small 5-row fair isle pattern as chart - there should be 5 repeats of the pattern. Thumb
With 3 x4.5mm dpns, knit across sts held on the thread. Pick up 3 sts from inside edge of the thumb (15 sts). Work 4 rounds even. Change to 4mm DPNs. Work K2 P2 rib for 4 rounds (on needle inside thumb gusset, work P2, K1, P2). Cast off loosely in rib.
Left Hand Gauntlet
Work as right-handed gauntlet to \*\* Row3: buttonhole row K to last 4sts, K1, YO, K2tog, K1 Cont as R-handed gauntlet making further buttonhole on row 13, in same manner as previous Left Hand gauntlet buttonhole. Cont as given to \*\*\*. Join onto DPNs with buttonhole flap overlapping on the top. Dividing for Thumb and Increase Row :, M1, K2, inc 1, slip next 12 sts onto a piece of yarn for the thumb, K2, M1; [K5, M1] 5 times (40 st Knit one round even. Work the small 5-row fair isle pattern as chart (starting with K5 in beige). Work 4 rounds st st. Change to 4mm DPNs. Work 4 rounds of K2 P2 rib. Cast offloosely.
