Danish Rose Beret

This lovely stranded beret goes perfectly with the Danish Rose Gauntlets. The Beret is worked in the round up to the Rose motif, which is worked back and forth. The remainder of the hat is worked in the round and it sopped off with a plaited tassel. Yarn Use Aran weight, in colours of your own choice. J.C. Pattern:
With 4mm circular needle and MCcast on 92 sts. PM and join for knitting in the round. Work a K2 P2 rib for about 2.5 cm (about 8 rounds). Increase row: change to 4.5mm circular needle \*K2, M1, repeat from \* to end of round (138 sts). Work even for 4 rounds, decreasing 2 sts evenly on last row (136 sts). Commence following Small Fair Isle Chart for next 5 rounds. Work even for 4 rounds in MC. The Rose Chart portion is worked flat, back and forth. Join CC1, 2, and 3 as necessary. Try not to carry the yarn too loosely or too tightly at the back of work. Commence with Rose Chart as follows: Row1: K34 sts in MC, PM, work the first row of the Rose Chart, PM, K in MC to the last st, M1. Turn work. The rem of this chart will be worked flat, back and forth. Row 2 (WS): P to the M, work the second row of the Rose Chart, P in MC to the end. Cont with rows 3-19 in the same manner. At the end of row 19, dec 1 st. This added stitch in the Rose Chart portion will aid in sewing up later. Hat should measure about 15 cm at this point. Next Round: Join again for knitting in the round Using MC, K all sts.
Decreasing:
Dec Round 1: \* K2, K2tog to end of round. Work 5 rounds even. Dec Round 2: switch to DPNs \* K2, K2tog to end. Work 4 rounds even. Dec Round 3: \* K2tog to end. Work 2 rounds even. Dec Round 4: Work same as for Dec Round 3. Work 2 rounds even. Dec Round 5: Work same as for Dec Round 3. Work 1 round even. Work these 2 rows until 8 sts rem. Using mattress stitch, seam the opening closed. Sew in all ends neatly.
Tassel
Using the C yarns, hold togethera thread of each colour and wrap continuously around your outstretched fngers. When you have created a nice thick hank, cut the ends of the strands. Take 6 assorted-coloured strands 14 inches long, put through hank, and joint them together outside the hank and knot. Plait the 12 strands in sets of 4 to 5in. At peak of beret, thread on one set of4 through gap at one side of peak, one set of4 to another ide, and final set to final gap. Turn to the inside of the beret and braid them on the inside for 1.5 inches. Knot the ends to secure. Bind around tassel at top near plait 20 times - tuck loose end in. Cut bottom of hank to make tassel.
