Materials Needed:
Circular Needles: Sizes: US4, 16" & US6, 16" Double Pointed Needles (dpn): US6 Crochet Hook: Size G Yarn: Caron - Simply Soft, Worsted Weight. Main color, yellow, approximately 2 oz worth. Also, Black, White and Grey in minimal amounts. \*Optional - I used a lace weight metallic grey yarn and knitted with the worsted weight yarn as shown above. Sizes: Baby (1 year old), Child, Adult.
Hat:
Using smaller circular needles, cast on 80(88,96) stitches. Place market and join in the round, careful not to twist your stitches. Work in 1x1 Ribbing (K1, P1) until piece measures 1.5" from cast-on edge. Using larger circular needles, K 1 Row. With Black yarn, K 1 Row, P 1 Row. Work in St st for 1". P 1 Row. With Yellow yarn, work in St st until piece measures 5" (5.5", 6") from cast-on edge. Begin Decreasing as follows, switching to double pointed needles whenever necessary. For Adult size: Row 1: \*K2tog, K10\* Repeat to end of round. For Adult and Child sizes: Row 2: \*K2tog, K9\* Repeat to end of round. For ALL sizes: Row 3: \*K2tog, K8\* Repeat to end of round. Row 4: \*K2tog, K7\* Repeat to end of round. Row 5: \*K2tog, K6\* Repeat to end of round. Row 6: \*K2tog, K5\* Repeat to end of round. Row 7: \*K2tog, K4\* Repeat to end of round. Row 8: \*K2tog, K3\* Repeat to end of round. Row 9: \*K2tog, K2\* Repeat to end of round. Row 10: \*K2tog, K1\* Repeat to end of round. Row 11: \*K2tog\* Repeat to end of round. Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Using an upholstery needle pull through remaining stitches and fasten off. Cut 3 pieces of black yarn, approximately 6" long. Using the crochet hook, attach them like you would fringe at the end of a scarf. This will produce 6 hairs for your minion.

Eyes: (Make 2, for the minion as shown. But some of Gru's minions only have one eye. It's up to you.) Crocheted: Using crochet hook, and black yarn, wrap yarn around finger twice, chain 1 into loop. Chain 2. The chain 2 wil count as one stitch) Round 1: 11 SC (Single Crochet) into loop, join using a slip stitch. Round 2: Switch to White yarn, and Chain 2. 1 SC in same stitch, 2SC in each stitch after that. (24 stitches) Round 3: Chain 2, 1 SC in same stitch, \* 2SC in next stitch, 1SC in next stitch\*. Repeat to end of round (36 stitches) \*\*In the hat shown above, I stopped here, but if you are making a larger, one eyed minion, I've added a couple more rounds. Basically, just keep on going until you get to the size you like. Round 4: Chain 2, 1 SC in same stitch, \* 2SC in next stitch, 1SC in next 2 stitches\*. Repeat to end of round (48 stitches) Round 5: Chain 2, 1 SC in same stitch, \* 2SC in next stitch, 1SC in next 3 stitches\*. Repeat to end of round (60 stitches) I like the look of the crocheted eyes, but they can also be knitted as well. Here are the instructions for a knitted eyeball. Knitted: Using the black yarn and double pointed needles, Cast on 8 stitches, and arrange across 4 needles. Round 1 and every other round: Knit Round 2: K into front and back of every stitch (16 stitches) Round 4: Switch to White yarn. \*K1, K into front and back of next stitch\*. Repeat to end of round. (24 stitches) Round 6: \*K2, K into front and back of next stitch\*. Repeat to end of round. (32 stitches) Continue in established pattern until you reach the desired size of eyeball Bind off loosely, and leave a long tail Using that tail, and an upholstery needle, whip stitch the eyeballs) onto the front of the hat in desired location.
Goggle Binding:
Using Grey yarn (and optional metalic yarn), and double pointed needles, Cast on 4 stitches and work as an Icord. ( K across, but instead of turning your work, slide those stitches to the other side of your double pointed needle, and K across again. Slide again, Knit across again, and again, and again. Keep working I-cord untilit is long enough to wrap around the circumference of your eye on the hat, and cut yarn leaving a long tail, and pull through all 4 loops with your upholstery needle. Using the tail, and your upholstery needle, stitch I-cord to hat along the edge of the eyeball. Repeat on the other eye. Weave in all loose ends. uestions or comments, please contact me at maura@pinkmonsterknits.com I am happy to help.
