Kyronniemi
Kyronniemi sock design was greatly inspired by Rose Hiver's Fireweeds Socks and Heather Desserud's Lotus Mittens. The center ornament is an adaptation of one found in an Ikea paper serviette. Please note that the cuff ribbing, heel and toe are worked in main color using smaller needles and the stranded knitting using larger needles. The front of the sock is worked at the beginning of the round (= needle 1) and the back of the sock, heel, gusset and sole at the end of the round (= needle 2). Kyronniemi Socks page1/5
Instructions
Cuff and 1eg
With MC cast on 68 [72] sts onto smaller needles. Distribute evenly onto both needles. Join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist. Work k1tbl, p1 ribbing for 12 rounds. Switch to larger needles and knit one round in MC, one round in CC and one round in MC. Work sts on both needles according to chart A1 [A2]. Repeat chart rows 1-16 three times.
Heel
Slip the first stitch on needle 2 onto needle 1. Heel flap is worked back and forth over the 33 [35] sts on needle 2 in MC using smaller needles. Heel flap is started on the wrong side row.

Photos and pattern ? Tiina Kuu Work heel flap as follows: row 1 (WS): sl1, p32 [p34], turn work row 2 (RS): sl1, \*k1, sl1\*, repeat \* - \* until 2 sts remain, k2 Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 32 [34] rows in the heel flap and you have just worked row 2 (RS). Work the round heel turn as follows: row 1 (WS): sl1, p18 [p19], p2tog, p1, turn work row 2 (RS): sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn work row 3 (WS): sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn work row 4 (RS): sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn work Continue the established pattern until all side stitches have been decreased and you have just worked a RS row (= 19 [21] sts remaining). Please note that in size S/M socks there are no spare stitches to work after the decreases in the last two rows. Cut the MC yarn.
Gusset and instep
Pick up 16 [17] sts along the right edge of the heel flap and one more stitch between the heel flap and needle 1. Knit the picked stitches in MC onto larger needle (= needle 2). Knit the 19 [21] heel sts in MC onto needle 2. Pick up 16 [17] sts along the left edge of the heel flap and one more stitch between the heel flap and needle 1. Knit the picked stitches in MC onto needle 2. There are now 53 [57] main color stitches on needle 2. During the gusset work sts on needle 1 as follows: work chart A1 [A2] and knit the last stitch in CC. Set up for needle 2: k0 [k1] in MC. Work \*k1 in MC, k1 in CC\*, repeat \*-\* altogether 5 times. Place marker if desired. Work chart B1 [B2] and place marker if desired. Work \*k1 in CC, k1 in MC\*, repeat \*-\* altogether 5 times, k0 [k1] in MC. Work the gusset decreases on needle 2 as follows: row 1: Work ssk in MC, then work CC stitches in CC and MC stitches in MC until chart B1 [B2] (= first stitch marker). Work chart B1 [B2] and then work CC stitches in CC and MC stitches in MC until 2 sts remain, k2tog in MC. row 2: Work CC stitches in CC and MC stitches in MC until chart B1 [B2] (= first stitch marker). Work chart B1 [B2] and then work CC stitches in CC and MC stitches in MC. On needle 2 repeat gusset rows 1-2 until 35 [37] sts remain on needle 2 and you have just worked gusset row 2. Work the last gusset decreases in MC as follows: work ssk in MC, work chart B1 [B2] stitches 2-32 [2-34], k2tog in MC. After the gusset is completed work sts on needle 1 as established and sts on needle 2 according to chart B1 [B2] until work is approximately 5,5 [6] cm / 2" [2 %"] shorter than the desired final length. Slip the last stitch on needle 1 onto needle 2. Knit one round in MC, one round in CC and one round in Mc. CC color yarn can now be cut.
Tog and finishing
Switch to smaller needles. On needle 1 work as follows: k1, ssk, knit until 3 sts remain, k2tog, k1. Work the sts on needle 2 the same. Repeat the decreases on every other round for 5 [6] times and then on every round for 6 [6] times until altogether 24 sts remain. Cut yarn. Graft the toe, weave in ends and block if desired.
