Shark Infested Waters Socks
Note: Chart only reflects ODD rows. Knit all even rows 2-32.
Materials:
100g sportweight or DK weight sock yarn. Sample made in Chameleon Colorworks Evolution Sport, Sea Monster colorway. Size 8-8.5" circumference Gauge: 6.5 spi Needle size: I used 3.25mm needles for my gauge. Use the appropriate size for your gauge needs. Cuff: Cast on 54 stitches;: divide so that there 27 stitches for instep, 27 stitches for heel. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Ribbing: $\star_{\mathsf{k}z}$ $\mathsf{p}1^{\star}$ repeat for entire round for about 1 1/2-2" Work chart until leg is desired length, ending on either a completed row 16 or 32.
Heel flap:
Row 1 (set-up): (RS) sl1 k 13, m1, k13, totaling 28 stitches. Row 2: (WS) sl, p27 Row 3: (RS) \*sl1, $k1^{\star}$ , repeat to end of row Row 4: (WS) sl, p27 Rows 5-27: Repeat rows 3 & 4, ending with a completed RS row. All heelflap edge stitches will be on the heel needle so decreases will occur at beginning and end of one needle. Turn heel On WS: sl1, p14, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl 1, k5, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p6, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k7, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p8, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k9, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p10, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k11, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p12, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k13, ssk, k1, turn Knit up 14 stitches along left edge of heel flap (tip: pick up extra stitch between heel flap and instep and twist it while knitting - this will prevent a hole at this point and willgive you 15 stitches) Instep needle: Knit across instep in chart pattern. Heel needle: Knit up 14 (15 if you wish to pick up the extra twisted stitch between flap and instep) along right edge of heel flap. Knit to last 3 stitches of heel needle, k2tog, k1. Instep needle: Knit across instep in chart pattern. Heel needle: K1, ssk, knit across remainder of heel needle. Repeat these 2 rounds until you have decreases back to 27 stitches on heel needle. Continuedownfoot, kniing allstitches onheel needleand continuing in chart patteroninstep needle until foot is $1.5^{\prime\prime}$ shorter than desired finished length. Star toe: Row $1\times17$ k2tog\* Row 2: knit Row 3: $\star_{\mathsf{k6}}$ , k2tog\* Row 4: knit Row 5: $\star|k5$ k2tog\* Row 6: knit Row 7: $\star_{\mathsf{k4}}$ k2tog\* Row 8: knit Row 9: \*k3, k2tog\* Row 10: knit Row 11: \*k2, k2tog\* Row 12: knit Row 13: $\star_{{\sf k l}}$ k2tog\* Row 14: knit Row 19: \*k2tog\* Break yarn leaving at least $6"$ tail. Using tapestry needle, draw yarn through remaining 6 stitches and draw tiqht. Weave in ends.
