Numma Numma Not-So-Mysterious Mystery KAL: A Modern Faroese Shawl Inspired by Traditional Mexican Textiles and Architecture

Surrounded by truly ancient North American architecture and designs, she took traditional Mexican textiles and tiles and reinterpreted them in a faroese shawl that is thoroughly modern. To start, you willneed yards of your favoritelace, fngeringor pssiblyl sport weight yarn. [The sport weight samle has turnedout quitelarge, and we are working ona sport weight modification that will most likely be ready in time to release with the lace and fingering weightclues.] Thisisayemetrichauwitwanttchhghyarieatdyalchaneisnifthlfthls isir. You may lose the eyelet patterns if you chose a yarn with extreme dark to light contrasts. If you are usinglace, you willneed 3 (3.25mm) needles. Fingeringwillrequire Us5 (3.75mm) needles, and sport wll requireUs(4.5mm) needlesYu wil want touseacircuar knitting needle rthisprjet. Theeare only suggested needle size, lease choose theneede that gives you a fabric that you love Th instructions for this shawl willbe writtenand charted. This shawlis worked in two side panels with a center panel running down the middleof the back. Nomatte which typeof directions you choose, youwll belooking at two charts ortwosectionsof written directions (in both cases, one forthe side and one for the centerpanelsfor the entire time you areknitting the shawl. That said, we donot think that this shawl pate is complexor only foradvanced knitters. It just requiresabitofconcentration.Youwilonly knit laceon one sideof the fabric; so the wrong side rows wil give you a bit of a breather. The shawl can be knit in your choice of garter or stockinette stitch. Swatching instructions and the first clue are now attached. The adventure begins.

If you choose to knit the stockinette version, your odd rows 5-31 will be k, purl to last three stitches, k3. If you choose the garter version, you wil knit all stitches on the wrong side rows. For this project,it is more important that you get a knitted fabric that you like rather than meeting the exact gauge above. NOTES:

This pattern contains a center panel chart as well as chart for the side panels. Each row should be worked by first working the side panel chart from right to left, then the center panel, then the side panel chart again from right to left. If working the garter version, you may wish to mark the right side of your work as the shawl is completely reversible, and it is difficult to tell the right from wrong side. Only right side rows are charted. All wrong side rows are "rest rows". For the garter version, knit all stitches. For the stockinette version, all wS rows are worked k3, purl to last three stitches, k3.
