LaughingWaves A tributetoGertrudeEderle

lot a person who reaches for the moon as long as I have the stars." Gertrude Eder At this point in our MKAL, you have clues for the ribbing and the leg pattern. Many of you are ready to knit clue #3 and some of you are waiting to start until all the clues have been released. Either way, have fun and enjoy the KAL! I used my personal favorite heel flap and heel turn for Laughing Waves because well, they make me happy and I love the fit. Certainly not all of you have this affection and feel free to substitute your personal favoritefor the socks. I thought a lot about different designs for the foot of the sock. In the end I continued it down the foot to give more flow to the pattern. I felt it would have a boxy look otherwise and I wanted to avoid that. By now you have the pattern repeat down pat and it will be an easy go for the foot. As with the heel, feel free to use a different stitch for the foot. I did knit the foot on smaller needles because I wanted the stitch to expand a little bit when worn. Depending on individual preference you may adjust as you wish. We allike to tweak the fit of our socks.
Change to US #1 % (2.5 mm) for the remainder of the sock!
HEEL FLAP/TURN
Turn and purl across 28 (30, 34) stitches placing them all on one needle. You will knit your heel flap over those 28 (30, 34) stitches. Begin knitting the heel flap.
Heel Flap Stitches:
Row 1: \*Slip 1(as if to purl, yarn in back), K1\* repeat from \*to\* to end of row. Row 2: Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, purl the remaining stitches to end. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have 26 (28, 30) rows TOTAL completed. Repeat row 1. Your yarn will be on the left edge of your heel flap with right side facing. Turn your heel as follows:
Heel turn:
Turn the heel by working short rows as follows: Short row 1: Slip 1, p15 (16, 18) p2tog, p1, and turn work. Short row 2: Slip 1, k5, k2tog, k1, and turn work. Short row 3: Slip 1, p6, p2tog, p1, and turn work. Short row 4: Slip 1, k7, k2tog, k1, and turn work. Short row 5: Slip 1, p8, p2tog, p1, and turn work. Continue back and forth in this fashion, adding one more knit or purl stitch before the missing "tooth" until entire heel is worked. There will be 18 (18, 20) stitches remaining on the heel after it has been turned. When the heel turning is completed, the yarn will again be on the left edge of the heel flap, looking at it with the right side facing. Combine the remaining stitches onto 1 needle which will be calledneedle 2.
