
Covered in knitted diamonds, the Miranda is ajewel of a hat. Made up of knits and purls, this is a great hat for beginner and intermediate knitters who want to create a hat with one skein, in one weekend. This is the child version for ages 6 - 10. Materials: 4mm/UlS6, 16" circular needles and DPNs Yarn Recommendation: Worsted Weight, 100 - 120 yards Stitch Markers Tapestry Needle Gauge: 16 stitches = 4" 1x1 rib; 16 stitches = 3" in Diamond Stitch Finished Circumference: 1 5" - 17"; stretches to accommodate an 1 8" head size Pattern Instructions: With a circular needle, CO 80 stitches and join, being careful not to twist. Place a stitch marker and knit Ix1 ribing for one inch. From here, begin the diamond stitch pattern (see below). Repeat the eight rounds of the diamond stitch pattern for a total of four times. Knit round 1 of the diamond stitch pattern one extra time before decrease section.

Miranda/page 2 Begin Decrease: Set-up round: K1Osts, \*pm, k20 sts\*, repeat twice from \*, pm, k10 sts. Leave original stitch markerto mark the beginning of the round. (Four stitch markers placed). Next round: \*Knit to two stitches before marker, ssk, sm, k1, k2tog\*, repeat 3 times, knit to end of round. Next round: knit. Repeat these two rounds until 8 stitches remain, switching to DPNs when circular needles are too long to use comfortably. Cut yarn, leaving an 8" tail. With a tapesty needle, weave through remaining live stitches and pull tight. Weave ends into the inside of the hat. Diamond Stitch Round 1: K4, \*pi, k7; rep from \* to last 4 sts, pi, k3. Round 2: K3,\*p1,ki, pi, k5;rep from \*tolast 5 sts, pi, ki, pi,k2. Round 3: K2,\*p1, k3; rep from \* to last 2 sts, p1, k1. Round 4: Ki, \*pi, k5, pi, ki; rep from \* to last 7 sts, pi, k5, pi. Round 5: \*P1, k7, rep from \* to last st. Round 6: Ki,\*pi, k5, pi, k1; rep from \* to last 7 sts, pi, k5, p1. Round 7: K2,\*p1, k3; rep from \* to last 2 sts, p1, k1. Round 8: K3,\*p1, k1, p1, k5; rep from \*to last 5 sts, p1, k1, p1, k2.
