MOUSE-STAIRS TOP
by boknits design The name of this easy to wear top was inspired by the Dutch "muizetrappetje", a concertina kindergarten technique most of you learned long ago... A geometric waterfall of simple folds runs down this simple vintage-inspired top. In red, perfect for your mother-in-law's Christmas dinner. In a more subdued color, great for the office. The scoop neckline is embellished with geometric filet crochet, to complement the waterfall ruffle down the front. Design notes: A knit in the round, bottom up garment The 3/4 length sleeves are set in and the mid-front ruffle is knit on separately. Tips and tricks
Right and left leaning decreases; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBpbLmgwHFA&feature=related Body: CO: I use the longtail cast-on. If you're unsure of your gauge or ability to customize a pattern, use a provisional cast-on so you can lengthen it later. With circular needle 4 mm or size you need to get gauge, CO loosely 76, 78(80,82,84,86,88,90) stitches, place marker(side), CO 76, 78(80,82,84,86, 88, 90), place marker ( side). Knit in stockinette for 10 cm/4". Waist decreases: SDLL, SDRL, SDLL, SDRL Decrease 1x per 6 rows, 6 times At 27 cm/10.5" or 78 rows: start increasing: 6 times every 6 rows, mirroring the decrease. At 41 cm/16" or 112 rows, divide body at markers. Knit to first waist marker, put rest of stitches on stitchholders or another circular needle. Back: Start armhole: 1x 3, 2x2, 3x1 Knit to 160 rows or 18 cm/7" armhole height. Cast off middle 20(22,24,26,27,28,28,28)stitches, 1x2, 1x1 at neck. At the same time for the neck: 2x6, 1x 5. Front: Identical to back until armhole measures 5 cm(2"). Cast off middle 16, 17(17,18,18,19,19,20)1x3, 1x2, 3x 1, continue as back. Sleeves: CO 40(42,44,47,51,54,54,54) stitches. Connect the set-up row, careful not to twist the stitches. Continue with magic loop, short length circular needle or dpns. Knit sleeves in desired length, increasing 2 stitches every 6 rows 5(5,5,5,5,5,5,6,7) times at stitch marker, ending up with 48(50,52,55,58,61,66,73)stitches. Decrease 1x3(3,3,3,3,3,5,6), 1x2, 2x1 stitch every 2 rows. Decrease 1 stitch at both ends every 4 rows until sleeve cap is 15cm/6" long. Cast of 1x2(2,2,2,2,2,3,4), 1x3(3,3,3,3,3,3,4,4) and 1x7 at both ends. Finish: Sew shoulder seams with mattress stitch. Close arm seams if you knit them flat, then sew in arms. Ruffle: Mark center of neck with marker or thread. Mark the center of the whole front with waste or baste yarn. Mark every 5cm/2 inches. That's where the ruffles will be knit on. Cast on 6 st on either side of marker, 1 in the middle, total 13 stitches. Knit 10 cm/4" for the first ruffle. \*In the next row, fold the ruffle back and knit onto(but below) the first ruffle mark. Pick up a stitch from the front (6 stitches from the center mark) and knit through both front stitch and stitch on needle. Knit for 15 cm/6".\* Repeat between \* \* until you've knit the whole front ruffle. Cast off right after knitting the double front/needle

Weave in loose ends. Soak, block lightly if you wish, and enjoy! Crochet neck embellishment(Note: crochet terms are US(UK): Attach yarn to neck, starting at shoulder, going towards back. Ch 6, \*triple crochet(double treble), ch 3, skip approximately enough space to match the ch 3,\* repeat until you reach the starting chains, slipstitch in 4th ch. BO.
