DESIGNER NOTES
This super-slouchy beret and adorable little purse are the perfect accessories for the Elemena Pea Coat. The beret has a cable band that is knit flat and grafted together. Then, stitches are picked up and knit in the round. The severe decrease gives it a gathered look. The pouch is knit flat and has a wonderful cabled flap that secures the contents with a button.

1-row buttonhole:
Bring yarn to front; slip next p-wise; bring yarn to back and leave it there. Slip next st p-wise; pass previously slipped stitch over it. Do this again for the next stitch (essentially binding off 2 sts). Slip 1st st on right needle to left needle. Turn work. Bring the yarn to the back and cable cast on by inserting right needle between the first and second sts on the left needle, wrap the yarn, pull loop through and place loop on left needle. Do this 2 more times so that you have cast on 3 sts. Turn work. Bring yarn to back, sl first stitch from left needle, pass extra cast-on st over it and tighten.
I-Cord
(Worked on DPN) Knit the first row. Without turning the work, slide the stitches to the opposite end of the DPN. Now your working yarn is at the "wrong" end of the row. Knit the next stitch, pulling the working yarn tightly up the back of the piece so you can work with it. Knit remaining stitches. Repeat in this manner until desired length.
Provisional Cast On
With waste yarn and crochet hook, chain approx 4 more sts than the desired number to cast on. With CC pick up and knit appropriate number of sts in chain

SLOUCH
With CC, cast on 8 sts using Provisional cast on method. Work in cable pattern until piece measures 14" (16", 18") from cast on edge. Cut yarn leaving 12" tail. Carefully remove chained cast-on yarn placing live stitches on separate needle - be sure not to twist. Using Kitchener stitch, graft stitches together. With MC and RS facing, pick up and knit 70 (80, 90) sts from cableband edge. Next row: \*K2, M1; repeat from \* to end. 105 (120, 135) sts. Continue in Stockinette stitch until piece measures 51%2" (6", 7") from picked up stitch edge. Next row (Decrease row): \*K2tog; repeat from \* to end, knitting any remaining stitches. 53 (60, 68) sts. Alternate one Decrease row and 1 even row until 14 (15, 17) sts. Cut yarn leaving enough yarn to weave through all remaining stitches. Use tapestry needle to weave through all stitches.
Edging
Using crochet hook and MC, with RS facing work one row of single crochet around second edge of cable band.
Finishing
Block and weave in all ends.
POUCH
With MC, cast on 26 sts. Work in Stockinette stitch until piece measures 12" from cast on edge. Bind off all sts.

Finishing
Fold rectangular piece almost in half leaving approx. 1/4" for backtopedge. With MC, beginning with the sts adjacent to the folded edge, work one row of sc by inserting hook through the edge sts of both halves of the folded piece. Work up around side seam, until you get to the front top edge, turn and work along top edge, turn and work down the other side seam. Starting at one corner of side seam, work one row of sc around cable flap until only the cast on edge remains. Work one row of sc seaming the pouch flap together with back top edge.
Shoulder Strap
Create a 6 stitch i-cord in desired length (length shown, 24") and sew into place. Sew button into place. x
