Yarn: Farmhouse Yarns, woodland spun chunky yarn, 5 (5,5) skeins. 110 yds and 5 oz each skein. I used 3 skeins of Russet (MC), along with Charcoal (CC1) and Mulberry (CC2) Needles: Size 11 for body, 10.5 for cuffs Gauge: 15 sts = 6", 4 rows = 1" in St St on Size 11 Size: 42"(48, 53)" chest Length: 25 (27, 29) inches
Body
With CC1, CO 108 (122,136) sts on Size 10.5 needles, join in the round, and K1P1 rib for 1-2 inches (4-8 rows), depending Ontaste. Switch to Size 11 circular needles, and join MC Row 1: K3 (4,5), \*KPK K6 (7,8)\* rep from \* to last 6 (7,8), then KPK K3 (4,5) Row 2: K3 (4,5), \*PKP K6 (7,8)\* rep from \* to last 6 (7,8), then PKP K3 (4,5) Repeat rows 1-2 until 8 (9,10)" long. Switch to CC1 and knit in same pattern for 1.5 (1.5,2)". Switch to CC2 and knit in same pattern for 4 (5,5)" Switch to CC1 and knit in same pattern for 1.5 (1.5,2)" for total of 15 (17, 19)" long Divide for Upper Back and shape arm holes Keep first 54 (60,68) sts on active needle and place rest of 54 (62,68) sts on holder for later. Join MC. B0 4 (5,5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. 46 (50,58) sts \*Next row (RS): SSK first 2 sts, knit according to pattern until last 2 sts, K2tog last 2 sts Next row (Ws): K row according to pattern as set w/o shaping. (Remember to switch the K and P sts for WS to maintain the same pattern on the RS.)\*, Rep from \* 3 (4,5) times. 40 (42,48) sts Cont w/o further shaping until back measures 25 (27,29) in from beg. B0 all sts.
Front, Shaping Armholes and Neckband
Transfer 54 (62,68) sts for front onto working needle. Work armhole shaping as for back: Cont in patt as set, B0 4 (5,5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. 46 (52,58) sts Next row: SSK at beginning of row, follow pattern as set, and K2tog at end of every RS row a total of 3(4,5) times. 40 (44,48) sts. Cont in patt as set. When front measures 17 (18,19) inches from beg, prepare to begin neck shaping for each half (20 [22,24] sts): [RS] First half: Knit in pattern as set for 17 (19,21) sts, ssk, k1. Second half: Attach new ball of yarn and use a second set of needles. K1, k2tog, work to end in pattern as set. Next row [Ws] Work each half separately without shaping, in patt as set. Work these 2 rows a total of 7 (7,8) times. 6 (8,8) sts remain for each half. Cont without further shaping until front measures same as back. BO all sts.
FINISHING
Use tapestry needle to weave in ends. Block if desired. Sew shoulder seams, using invisible horizontal seam
Armhole cuffs
Using CC1, 10.5 circular needle and with RS facing, pick up and knit 80 (82, 84) sts around armhole. Work for 1 inch in 1X1 rib (l used 4 rows), then BO all sts in rib patt. Remember to BO loosely.
Neckband
Using 10.5 circular needles, with RS facing and beg at left shoulder, pick up and knit 32 (34,36) down left neck edge, pick up and knit center st ; pick up and knit 32 (34,36) up right neck edge; and pick up and knit 30 (32,32) sts across back. Next Round: Work neckband in 1x1 rib until 2 sts before center front st, SSK, k1 (this is the center st), k2tog, work to end in rib patt. Rep this round until neckband is 1 inch wide. I knit 4 rows. BO all sts in rib pattern. Bind off loosely. Weave in remaining ends.
