Uljhan (Entanglemene) Beahie
This pattern was originally released as a surprise in the Fall 20l4 issue of Knitty online magazine and has over a 100 projects for you to draw inspiration from. This self-published version (post the rights were reverted back to me) is completely updated as per my pattern template, incorporating errata from the knitty version, and a new decrease to reduce the bulkiness at the crown. I have also worked up a single colour sample to show you that the hat would look just as pretty in a single colour of yarn. Uljhan is Hindi for Entanglement'. This fun beanie features a play on a two by two rib using two colours of yarn. It also uses a lxl cable at specified intervals, to form a pretty pattern over the body of the beanie. The two colours of yarn really highlight the stitch pattern and the ribbing provides a great fit for the wearer. Hope you enjoy! The original two-colour sample, is in Toddler size and uses Cascade 22O Wool in Orange and Black. The single colour sample, is shown in size Child/Teen and uses random natural wool for the body, and a green yarn from my stash for the pom pom. Please use #Uljhan or #desiloopdesigns when sharing your projects on Instagram and other social sites, for everyone to admire. Happy Knitting!
Pattern Notes
· Please read the complete pattern before casting on · If needed, use a row counter to keep track of the number of rounds knitted OR a tape measure to keep track of height · Instructions for the cap are given for bottom-up knitting ·When substituting yarn, be sure to swatch to achieve appropriate gauge and drape. If using wool or wool blends, make sure the post blocking gauge matches the pattern gauge · Measure the recipient's head circumference and refer to the sizing table to choose the proper size to knit · If between sizes, use the smaller size, but knit for appropriate length by adding more rounds ·Instructions for all the sizes are given in parentheses O in the order the appear in sizing table from left to right. Where only one number is given, it applies to all sizes · I have not designated colours to Colour A (CA) and Colour B (CB). You can choose your own colours to represent them . Work the entire ribbing in the same colour. · The body of the hat is knit in 2x2 ribbing and 1xl cables as specified in the chart · Knitting with one colour in each hands would make the project go faster. I would suggest holding the colour used for purl stitches in the left hand and the one for knit stitches in the right hand · If purl sts are to be decreased, use p2tog, if knit stitches are to be decreased, use k2tog. When there is a pair of p and k sts being decreased, use k2tog or ssk to keep the knit st always on top of the purl st
