Knotty Gloves
Winter is the best time to show off your knitting. For example with a pair of gloves!
Materials:
1 skein Sock that rock lightweight in "grawk" $2,5\;\mathsf{m m}$ circular needle (80 or $100\;\mathsf{c m}$ ordpns
30 stitches and 44rowson $10\times10\;\mathsf{c m}$ (stockinette stitch)
Size:
8 / women's L

19cm hand circumference (look at the picture below where to measure) It's important to check the fit of the glove while knitting, so try it on from time to time.
Instruction:
Cast on 60 sts and work $_{2\times2}$ ribbing for $6\,\mathsf{c m}$ starting each round on the right glove with p2,k2.. and on the left glove with k2, p2... Right glove: Go on ribbing the first 30 sts, then knitting in cable pattern for the remaining 30 sts. Left glove: Use the first half of the sts for the cable pattern and go on ribbing the remaining 30 sts. When reaching round 24 (see chart), knit the 30 ribbed sts in stockinette stitch for 5 rounds. Thumb gusset: Go on with the cable chart (you should be in Round 29 right now), but work the second half of the sts as follows: Right glove: Round 29: k2, m1, k1, m1, k27 Round 30: knit the next round Round 31: k2, m1, k3, m1, k27 Round 32: knit the next round Go on like this, adding 2 knit sts to the segment marked bold. (the next round would be k2, m1, k5, m1, k27...) Left glove:. Round 29: k27, m1, k1, m1, k2. Round 30: Knit the next round Round 31: k27, m1, k3, m1, k2. Round 32: knit the next round (go on like you did with the right glove)

When you reach the point where you have to k17 between the m1, stop increasing (Round 45). Round 46-48: k60 Round 49: Right glove: k2, put the next 19 sts on a piece of waste yarn, k57 Left glove: k57, put the next 19 sts on a piece of waste yarn, k2 Cast on 5 sts to close the gap. You need to decrease 4 of these 5 sts on the next 2 rounds. Round 50: when you reach the 5 sts: ssk, k1, k2tog. Round 51: when you reach the remaining 3 stitches: slip 1, k2tog, psso. Go on knitting until you reach the bottom edge of your little finger (app. 8 rounds) You are now at the beginning of the next round (this is on both gloves next to the thumb) Break the yarn, leaving enough to knit the index finger. Estimating the needed amount might be tricky. My solution is wrapping yarn around my fingers in a figure eight for 40 times and making a small bobbin out o fit. Put the little dangling bobbin in the thumb hole, so it won't get entangled with your yarn while you go on knitting. Put all the sts (60) on waste yarn. Just to make it clear before we start knitting the fingers: On both gloves the back of the hand is where you did the cables, okay? Pinky: Move 7 sts from the back of the hand and 7 sts from the palm back on the needles. Starting with the stson the palm, attach a new piece of yarn. k14, cast on 3 sts (17 sts) Go on knitting in stockinette until the small tube is nearly as long as your pinky. Try the gloves to see how many rows are still missing until the tube is about 3mm shorter thank your finger. When you finally reached this point: k2tog for 8 times, k1 Break the yarn and thread it through the remaining 9 stitches. Pull tight. Ring finger: Use 7 sts from the back of the hand and 7 sts from the palm. Pick up 3 sts on the pinky's side and cast on 3 sts in the gap next to the middle finger. Go on as described for the pinky. Middle finger: Use 7 sts from the back of the hand and 7 sts from the palm. Pick up 3 sts on the pinky's side and cast on 3 sts in the gap next to the middle finger. Go on as described for the pinky. Index finger: Use the remaining 18 sts and pick up 3 on the middle finger's side. Go on as described for the pinky.
Move the 19 sts back on your needles and knit, picking up 5 sts to close the gap.
Round 1: When reaching the picked up sts (5): ssk, k1, k2tog. Round 2: When reaching the picked up sts(3): slip 1, k2tog, psso. Knit the thumb like you did the rest oft he fingers. Weave in all the ends. Use them to close any holes between the fingers (if necessary).
