This is my first pattern. Comments forimprovements gratefully received. I love making, wearing and giving fingerless gloves. I couldn't find the right pattern, so I wrote this one up myself. Since Iwasintroducdto circular nedles (thanks Kelley!), rarely use anything else.You could makethee on DPNs, but you'll have to work out which needle goes where! There are a couple of variationsto choose.just mix and match as you like. RibEither R1p1 or k2p2 DesignHearts (small women's size) or flowers (medium women's size) YarnAny 4 ply (fingering) or5 ply (sports weight) yarn Main colour (Mc) - Approx 45g , 180 yds/160 metres Contrast Colour (cc) - Approx 10g, 40yds/35metres Needles - Circular 2.F5mm (US 2)for rib Circeular 3.25mm (us 3) for body Gauge28 sts and 36 rows to 4 inches using 3.25 needles in stocking (stockinette) stitch. To change size, use larger or smaller needles. This is quite a flexible pattern.

Iustructions -

CCOn 2.F5mm circular needles, Cast on 48 (52) stitches CC Join circle and K 1 row

Make cuff -

MC 12 rows of rib - either KiP1 (tighter and smarter) or K2P2 (looser and more relaxed)

Make heel of hand

change to 3.25 needles MC Knit 1 row MC/CC Using chart, kenit around making pattern 1 MC If making hearts pattern - K6 rows If making flowers pattern - e2 rows (Total number of rows in this section - 14)

Make thumb gusset

MC K1, place mareer, efbl efol, place marker, k to end of row (4 stitches between markers) Krow K1, slip marker, efol, K2, efol, slip marker, kto end of row Krow K1, slip mareer, efol, K4, efol, slip marker, to end of row Krow Continue this 2 row pattern, increasing between markers until there are 20 stitches Put these 20 stitches on spare thread/stitch holder.

Make Upper hand

MC Knit round emaining 46 (50) sts. Cast on2sts. These should be onthe side ofthe hand facing the thumb. (48 (52) sts) K 2 rows MC/CC Knit pattern 2 MC K1 row (add rows if you need longer gloves)

Rib top of glove

MC With 2.F5 mm needle. 6 rows of K1P1 or K2P2 rib CC K 1 row CC Cast off 48(52) stitches

Make thumb

MC With 3.25 needle .Pick upthe 20 stitches from the holder and pick up onestitch from each side of the thumb hole and 2 stitches from the cast on stitches (24 sts) MC K4rows MC On 2.75 needles rib 5 rows (K1P1 or K2P2) CC K1row CC cast off Make 2 gloves the same - pattern repeats inthe round, so it doesn't matter where the thumb is or which glove is Left or right.
