Sochi Socks
The colorwork in this sock is based on a random Russian embroidery pattern I found on the internet, my first time designing colorwork. A more authentic pattern would be red & white, but I went with rainbow colors in the spirit of the Sochi games. Sock is workedtop-down. Size: Women's medium Yarn: Main color: Cascade Yarns Heritage, 5618; 1 skein CC1: Cascade 220 Fingering, 8895 (Christmas Red); <1skein CC2: Cascade 220 Fingering, 7825 (Orange Sherbert); <1skein CC3: Cascade 220 Fingering, 4147 (Lemon Yellow); <1 skein CC4: Cascade 220 Fingering, 8903 (Primavera); <1 skein CC5: Cascade 220 Fingering, 7818 (Blue Velvet) <1skein CC6: Cascade 220 Fingering, 7808 (Purple Hyacinth); <1 skein
Needles:
Size 1 double pointed needles, or size 1 circular needles for magic loop (my preference)

Gauge: Whatever. I don't do gauge for socks. CO 60stitches Divide onto needles, join in the round. PM at beginning of round K2, P2 for about 12 rounds. Work chart: (see next page) Starting at row 1, work chart across next 51 rounds. The chart will be repeated 5 times in each round. Knit colorwork loosely, or you won't be able to get your foot in the sock. Ask me howIknow.
Heel flap (Eye of Partridge Heel):
1. K 15 sts, turn. 2. P across 30 stitches, turn. Put remaining 30 stitches on hold. 3. \*Sl 1, K 1\* rep from \* to \* across. 4. Sl 1, p. across. 5. Sl 1, K 2, \*sl 1, k 1\* rep from \* to \* until 1 stitches from end. K1. 6. SI 1, p across. 7. Repeat rows 3-6 until you have worked 30 rows in total.
Turn Heel
1. K across 17 stitches, ssk, k 1, turn. 2. Sl 1, p 5, p2tog, p 1, turn. 3. Sl 1, k to 1 stitch before gap, ssk, k 1, turn. 4. Sl 1, p to 1 stitch before gap, p2tog, p. 1, turn 5. Rep rows 3 & 4 until you have worked all heel stitches. 18 stitches remain. Gusset (note: divide up stitches on needles however it's most convenient for you. Using magic loop, I like to arrange to have the heel & gusset on one side, and the 30 stiches along the top on the other.) 1. K 18, Pick up & knit 15 stitches along edge of flap, pm, K across 30 held stiches, pm, pick up & knit 15 stitches along other edge of flap, k to end of round. 2. K to 3 stitches before marker. K2tog, K 1, sm, K to next marker, sm, K 1, ssk, k to end of round. 3. K all stitches. Repeat rounds 2 & 3 until 60 stitches remain. The beginning of each round is around the middle of the heel. Knit even until about 2 inches less than desired length.
Toe
1. K to 3 stitches before marker, K2tog, k 1, sm, Ssk, k to 3 stitches before marker, K2tog, sm, k1, ssk, k to end. 2.K to end. 3. Repeat rounds 1-2 until 30 stitches remain. 4. Repeat round 1 until 16 stitches remain. 5. Cut yarn and graft toe. 6. Weave in ends.
