Hudson Meets Sochi Throw
Design by 2Grrls Finished Size: 45" x60" Yarn: Worstedweight yarn, 2453 yarns in main color (MC); 220 yards\* each of the Contract Color (CC1 to 4). Needles: 5.5mm, 24"" circular needle or size to obtain gauge.

This fun throw is modeled after the iconic Hudson's Bay Pointe Blanket. I started it at the beginning of what turned out to be a very long, cold, and snowy winter in the mid-Atlantic and finished during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The fact that the colors of the throw matches the Olympics color way is a happy coincidence.
Yarn used in the sample shown:
MC (cream): Patons Classic Wool Merino (100% merino wool); 223 yds (203.9m)/100 g),11 skeins. CC1 (navy): Patons Classic Wool Worsted (100% wool); 210 yds (192m)/100 g),1 skein. Cc2 (yellow): Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50% wool, 50% alpaca); 215 yds (196m)/100 g),1 skein. Cc3 (red): Patons Classic Wool Worsted (100% wool); 210 yds (192m)/100 g),1 skein. Cc4 (green): Stonehedge Fiber Mill, Shepherd's Wool Worsted (100% merino wool); 250 yds (229m)/113 g),1 skein. Gauge: 16 sts = 4" in stockinette stitch; 32 sts = 4" in doubleknit. \* yardage in each skein of yarn varies, even the same brand/ yarn/color. If you want to avoid having to buy an extra skein just for a row or two, divide each skein of CC yarn into 2 by weight before you start. This would not help if the yardage between 2 colors differs a lot but at least you will have the stripes of the same color match in length.

About Double-Knitting
This throw is knitted in the doubleknitting method in which two layers of fabric are knitted at the same time on one pair of straight needles or one circular needle. Double-knitting is usually used in constructing contrasting color works on both sides of the fabric. Hudson Meets Sochi, however, consists of horizontal stripes that are the same on both sides, therefore is much simpler to knit than contrasting color works because you try out a new knitting method the easy way.

only need to carry one strand of yarn at any given time. So this is a great fun way to I suggest you to search for any video tutorial online to familiarize yourself with this technique before you delve right in. This is a BlG project and will not be quite portable after around the half-way point. So gather your stash, brace yourself and setfle in.

Continue knitting in the same manners as the very first two rows until the first stripe measures 2" long. Ending on the edge where the marker is. Cut off yarn, leaving a tail that is about 4 inches long. Next row (change back to MC): Same as the very first row but knit with MC, making sure to leave a tail that is about 4 inches long. Continue knitting and changing color in this manner until you finish knitting the strip
Hudson Meets Sochi Throw
Design by 2Grrls with CC4. Ending on the edge where the marker is. (You might want to add or move the marker up as your throw is getting longer so that it is easier to see.) Middle Section: Next row (change to MC): Same as the very first row but knit with MC, making sure to leave a tail that is about 4 inches long. Continue knitting in the same manner as the very first two rows until the middle section measures 22 inches long. Ending on the edge where the marker is. Same as the first set of stripes except now you will need to reverse the color order (starting with CC4). After you have knitted the four stripes (after CC1), change to MC and knit in the same manner until the last MC section is 5 inches long. Ending on the edge where the marker is.
Bind off
Next row (bind off row): K1, \*K2togtbl, pass first st on the right needle over the second st. Repeat from \* until the last st. Sl the last st from the left needle to the right purlwise and pass the first st on the right needle over the second st. Cut off yarn leaving a 4-inch tail. Pull yarn through loop. Finishing Weave in all ends.
