by Chroma Yarns A slip stitch fair isle cowl in 2 colours using sock weight (or otherwise) yarn.

Size: 60cm circumference. Each pattern repeat is 12cm wide based on gauge. If you wish a smaller size you can use fewer pattern repeats. Cast on instructions given for a 48cm cowl (4 patternrepeats) You can knit this in 2 depths depending on whether you have an elegant flamingo neck or a perfectly balanced dormouse neck! Gauge: 28rows per 10cm and 32stitches per 10cmunblocked. Yarn: Chroma Sockies - 45% silk 55% Bfl wool Needles:4mm Notions: Stitch markers
Instructions
Knit loo o O se ly'said Alice. Lo 00 0 o o o o osely,' said the Mad March Hare 'Yes. Loosely,'said Alice.'Or you fair isle will pucker and you will be very glum.' Use a SHORT 4mm circular needle or dpns complete the picot cast on ending with 181 (145)stitches in total on theneedles.
Picot cast on
Make a slip knot with a short tail and place on left needle. Insert the right hand needle tip into the slip knot, wrap the yarn around and pull a new stitch through. Place this on the left hand needle knitwise. Continue in this way and cast on 3 more stitch giving a total of 5 stitches. Knit the first 2 stitches. Pull the first stitch over the second and off the right needle. This has bound off one stitch. Knit the next stitch and bind it off by pulling the first stitch on the right hand needles overthesecond. Pass the remaining stitch on the right hand needle back to the left hand needle \*Using a knitted (cable) cast on, cast on 4 more stitches. Knit and bind off the first 2 stitches. \*\* Repeat from \* to \*\* stopping when you have cast on 181 stitches (145stitches). the round by knitting the first and last stitches together (180 stitches, 144stitches).
Continuing
Knit 2 rows of Colour A. Purl one row of Colour B. Knit 2 rows of Colour A. Follow the chart working from right to left. There are 5 (4) repeats in total. Each repeat is approx 12cm wide. If you would like a larger cowl you could do more repeats, depending on yarn quantity. Place markers between each pattern repeat to keep your place. In particular, mark the beginning of the round with a different marker so that you can identify it easily. Once you have completed the chart: Knit 2 rows of Colour B. Purl one row of Colour A. Knit 2 rows of Colour B.
Picot Cast off
Still using Colour B knit the first 2 stitches and bind off one using traditional bind offi.e. lift the first stitch on the right needle over the second. \* Transfer the remaining stitchfrom the right hand nede to the left. And using the knitted (cable) cast on, cast on 2 stitches. Bind off 5 stitches. These are identified as the 2 stitches you've just cast on. The one you work in the first step and transferred back to the needle, and 2 more. \*\* Repeat from \* to \*\* until one stitch remains. Cut yarn and pull through last stitch.
Finishing
