Spring! for Gudie: Upcycled Wool Angorasilk Blend Knitting Pattern with RC4F and Garter Stitch

Spring! for Gudie

Made with upcycled wool [angora/silk blend], fingering weight, hand-dyed by my friend, Gudie....it is worked lengthwise from end to end.

Gauge: gauge is not important.... what is important is that you like the look and feel of the fabric you have created. I used 4mm Knit Picks circs, for gauge I measured one pattern set, at approx row 9 = 2" wide, and two whole pattern sets = 3.5" high (unblocked swatch was used for measurements.) My finished sample measured 4' long and 7" deep, unwashed and unblocked. My sample used 48g..if I had more wool I would have made it longer and somewhat deeper ?

Stitches used:

sl1: slip 1 stitch with yarn in front, creates the chain selvedge. kfb: knit into the front of the stitch and then into the back of the stitc \*bl: backward loop cast on, you will only need to increase by bl when it follows RC4F, otherwise, increase by kfb. skpo: slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch. sk2po: slip 1 knitwise, k2tog, slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch. k2tog: knit 2 stitches together as one. M: marker. RM: remove marker. SM: slip marker. K&P: knit the knits and purl the purls. RC4F: (k1, p1) rib: slip 2 sts to CN, hold in FRONT, k1, p1, then k1, p1, from CN. A. Note: did the last increase cause there to be 12 garter stitches after a (k1, p1) rib or RC4F? If yes, work the 4 stitches beside the marker as a (k1, p1) rib from now on. 14: sl1, p5, kfb, k3, p1, k4, SM, K&P..16 sts before marker 15: sl1, K&P to marker, SM, k3, p1, k1, p5, skpo, k1, k2tog, k1...14 sts after marker 16: sl1, p3, kfb, k4, p1, k4, SM, K&P...15 sts before marker 17: sl1, K&P to M, k3, p1, k1, p6, sk2po, k1...13 sts after marker 18: p2tog, bind off 5 sts knitwise, k1, p1, k4, SM, K&P.

Pattern illustration

[This picture shows the alternating (k1, p1) rib and garter section with 8 garter stitches between.] From now on you will continue increasing 4 stitches for each 18 rows, and working the increased stitches as established, alternating garter stitches and (k1, p1) rib until you have reached the desired depth. [You might want to use markers to separate the (k1, p1) rib stitches from the garter stitches.] Work even until %2 the desired length is reached, now start decreasing. D. Decrease, work as established, replacing the increase with k2tog. To decrease a stitch where there is a p1 beside it, use p2tog. If decreasing within the (k1, p1) rib, knit those stitches and use k2tog.
