Goober Toss Design: A Whimsical Knitting Pattern for a Beanbag Peanut Toy by Nancy Anderson

Goober Toss Design by Nancy Anderson

Skill Level: Easy

Pattern illustration

Skills Required: knitting on circular needle or dpns, knit, kfb, k2tog. Let's make some peanut butter! This is beanbag toss game with a whimsical twist. See how many goober peas (aka peanuts) you can get in the "jar". This goober is so easy and fast and the best part is that he uses up all of those yarn scraps. Make a whole mess of these peanuts and let the fun begin. Size Goober Pea is approximately 5" tall.

Materials

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn remnants. Model is worked in Red Heart Super Saver “Café Recommended needle sizes US 6/ 4 mm circulars or 4 US 6 dpns

Notions

Stitch marker, small amount of white felt, small black buttons, white embroidery thread & embroidery needle, tapestry needle, stuffing, plastic pellets & knee high.

Gauge

Gauge is not important for this project. Stitches should be worked tightly enough as to prevent stuffing showing through.

Pattern Notes

This bean bag peanut is worked in the round on circular or dpn's, from top of head downwards. It is weighted with the use of plastic pellets designed for adding weight to stuffed toys. Pellets need to be contained or they will work their way out through the stitches over time. Make a packet to hold the pellets using the toe end of a knee high stocking. Place about 1/4 cup, (more or less), of the pellets in the hose & tie closed with a knot. Fold hose back over itself and tie again to add an extra layer if desired. Trim the excess hose off. Stuff toy as rounds are completed, placing pellet packet last. Make an optional "jar" by upcycling a gallon milk jug. Simply cut the top part of a thoroughly washed jug off. Done! Or cut the top off at an angle to leave the handle in tact for use in a beanbag throw & catch game.
