MATERIALS: Trekking (XXL) or any sock weight yarn, preferably not self-striping, 75% wool and 25% nylon, 100 grams, 459 yards; size 7 24" circular needle; removable stitch markers; sharp scissors; optional: size 6° seed beads and a dental floss threader. GAUGE: not important for this scarf/wrap. SIZE: 12-14 inches wide by 70 inches long. INSTRUCTIONS: Using size 7 circular needle, cast on 186 stitches using the long tail cast-on method. NOTE: The long-tail cast-on method should be used because it unravels in the same manner as dropped stitches. Join into the round, being careful not to twist the stitches around the needle.Place a marker onthe needle between the first and last stitches to mark the beginning of the round. Rounds 1 - 3: purl. Rounds 4 - 7: knit. Repeat Rounds 1 - 7 for pattern. Continue in pattern until the piece measures 12 to 14 inches, end on round 6 of the pattern. Place two stitch markers on the needle: one 15 stitchesbeforeANDanother15stitchesafter the beginning of round marker. For the bind-off round: Knit 15 stitches, slip marker, bind-off 4 stitches then make the last loop on the right needle larger and pass your working yarn on the skein through the loop from back to front to secure your bound off stitch, \*knit 5 stitches, bind-off 4 stitches then make the last loop on the right needle larger and pass your working yarn on the skein through the loop from back to front\*, repeat between the \*s to the marker, slip marker, knit last 15 stitches. Place removable stitch markers along the vertical column between the first and last stitches. With sharp scissors, cut a vertical line using the markers as a guide, removing them as you cut. Remove your needle carefully and at the same time, unravel the 15 stitches at each end of the scarf; then carefully drop the loops on your needle row by row down through the cast-on edge. Block by pinning and pressing to straighten the stitches and fringe. Be patient. This is time-consuming. For fringe: \*\*Using 2 or 3 strands, tie a knot close to the edge of the scarf. Repeat from \*\* until all strands are knotted. Thread each set of strands through the loop end of a floss threader. Using the other end of the threader, slide on a set of beads and tie a knot to secure them. Trim strands to 5 inches of bottom bead.
